Guest Gramps-xrds Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 I started this one several yrs ago and this is as far as I've gotten. I fixed the trunk to the right one, made the skirts from aluminum sheet and did some filling and painted w/ Harley/Davidson candy red lacquer over black primer and metalic
george 53 Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 ###### Bill, for a guy who hasn't built models ina long time you sure caught up pretty quik. All your stuff is really good.Maybe by time I'm ol an rickkety an geriatrically impaired I might be as good as you!(Cuz I KNOW i'll never get like Raul& BIGGS an those guys!)
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 George, you kill me. I realy hate to tell you this, but that car has been sitting in my shelf for prob. 10 yrs. All I did was clean it w/ rubbing compound and wax it. Every thing on my shelves is covered w/ dust and over spray. I'll never get them all cleaned. If you don't believe me look for yourself. This is just a small part of what's on there.
CB Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Gramps! I'm in love with your 36 custom! How'd you stuff all them ponys under that hood?! Any chance we can see more of that diorama it's sitting on? That's some real nice archeteckture (or however it's spelled) And nice collection (psssssst George,.... wanna do a road trip to Gramps place and 'help' him out with that collection? I really like that 58Chivvy back in the) ...ah....., yeah Gramps, really nice collection. I really like that 58 Chevy you got there. Yes sir, that's one really nice 58.....(what's that, George?...........ok,yeah, sounds good! I'm in southwestern Pa and you can either pickem me up on your way or I can just meet you there-----oooooops ) So....ah........Gramps, how long did it take you to build up that collection? Great work, thanx for letting me jerk yer chain a bit . ######'n
george 53 Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Ya know Bill,######'n's got a pretty good idea there.I mean, if you ever need some help dustin or cleanin them babys up,Me an the ######'n could always do a road trip to help out a fellow modeler.I mean we ARE family an all.Just say the word!
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Stop it you guys. My sides are hurting from laughing. ######'n if you're serious about the dio, look in the dio section. It's all there. I imagin ppl are getting tired of seeing it by now though. As for how long it took to amass all the dust collectors. Well, some of them are over 40 yrs old, but have been stripped and re-done several times over the yrs. That's why I just hate to cut a model up.
sdrodder Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 that green bel air is sick. got more pics? Love the 36 too especiasly the paint.
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Sorry, The vettes are 63,65,67. The only 64 I had was cut up yrs ago.
george 53 Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 WoW Bill, So wat are you sayin? NO to some eager help from the ######'n an I?How are you gonna show us some appericiation for all our hard work?( I was thinkin maybe weda got a model or 2 for all our hard work)I KNOW this is gonna CRUSH the ######'n.But we'll survive,(sob) were big boys now and we've both had our hopes and dreams TRAMPELED on quite a few times now! (life IS a bitch!).BUT, IF you EVER need a hand cleanin or keepin those bad boys in showtime shape, just let us know! Your car washin dust bustin Buds, ######'n & Me!!
Harold Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Wow, that's quite a collection you've got going there. I really like the '56 Ford with the Stude grilles. Great stuff.
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Wow, that's quite a collection you've got going there. I really like the '56 Ford with the Stude grilles. Great stuff. Thanks Harold Sdrodder wanted more pic of it, so I posted it for him under "Sdrodder is this the green one" Now, on to George. What can I say but, Goerge-George-George. You and ######'n crack me up. I do kinda wish you or I lived closer. Then I could come over and maybe help you rebuild your dios. ( I worked as a union carpenter for several yrs before I went to the chemical plant ) Then maybe I WOULD let you help clean some dust. Maybe since I can't decide what kind of dio to build next, I'll spend some time actually building a model for a change. Although I have no idea where to put it. Most of my later finished models were put back in the box and sat on the shelf. Oh well, we'll see what happens.

Great to have some fun with our feller modelers. Got an idea for a diorama which probly needs some rethinkin or refining. How bout a car cruise or a parking lot? Yeah, I know , I'm wacked. If'n a guy had the room, a parking lot would be cool, specially if'n a guy had as many sweets as you gots . HEY!!-- Wouldn't a nice big coffee table with say.......a dozen or 18 of yer rides in a parky lot--under glass!! ---now that would be really, really cool ! Man! sometimes I amaze myself !!
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Do you think my wife would really let me do that in her living room ? I don't think so. Anybody can make a parking lot. I need more of a challenge, something that would require some thought and imagination and of course structure, yet small enough that it doesn't take up a city block.
dub Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 That is one KOOL 36! You have quite a few really cool built-ups, there Gramps! You are faced with a tough call.... Clean up all the old ones or start the new ones. Better you than me! Do I spy an old Lindberg 25 Tall T in the last pic? I just finished one of the re-pops, just need to post it.
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Actually Dub, that's an AMT tall T. It's old, like me. I'm not sure you can still find them any longer. I think they came out w/ that in the second release of the double kit. MPC also made a tall T as part of their 23 or 25 T switchers. It has a more rounded turtle deck on it, I like it better.
dub Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 I think Lindberg has that same tool now and is reissuing it right now. Here is the boxart: It sure looks like the same tool.... Anybody know for sure?
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Thanks George. I hate cleaning them, it takes a lot of time and I end up breaking something off that I have to fix. To bad there isn't something that you just spray on and it cleans all the crud off for you.
rollinoldskoo Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Sorry, The vettes are 63,65,67. The only 64 I had was cut up yrs ago. any chance the hood survived?
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 If my memory serves me right the 64 was like the 63 only without the chrome inserts. I don't know if it's in a box somewhere but I'll dig through the junk and see what I can find.

I don't know if it's in a box somewhere but I'll dig through the junk and see what I can find. exactly..... i posted in the wanted ads lookin for a 64 hood... i am comverting an AMT 63 corvette into a 64 for my boss... he's been real good to me and helped me more than you could imagine any boss helping... i know there is resin available but a plastic hood would be that much nicer....
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Sorry Rollin. I forgot all about you till just now, so I just went through all the extra vette parts and there was no 64 hood anywhere. ( It would have been 44 yrs old ) If it'd been there, you would have been welcome to it. Have you thought of using the 63 and sanding the inserts down and filling it smooth ? Lookin for a hood that old would be like lookin for hens teeth I'm sorry it took me so long.
