LUKE'57 Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Anybody make a big truck that we can convert to a water truck? Ol' Curtis says it gettin' mighty dusty out there.
Guest zebm1 Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Hiya Luke'57, offer a suggestion, convert a military fuel truck like one of these...... it's an AFV Club model, prolly 1:35th scale.....but it gets ya in tha ballpark, a starting point. Go to http://www.megahobby.com and scroll thru....... oh yeah, it's On Sale for $32.95....
Guest Davkin Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 There was a tanker version of the Monogram 1925 Mack AC. Combine that with an Italeri Opel Blitz chassis and a mid 50's Chevy pickup cab and you've got your water truck. Not exactly a cheap way to go though. I've seen the tanker Mack go for close to $50 on ebay and while the Opel is still readily available it wasn't a cheap kit to begin with. David
Aaronw Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 The 1/24 Italeri Opel blitz fire truck would work, combined with the cab of the '41, '50, '55/57, '60 Chevy or '50, '53, '56 Ford it makes a nice older Chevy or Ford tank truck. Lindberg is supposed to be re-issuing their milk tanker which I have been told can be built as a trailer or as a truck mounted tank. That would make a great water truck mounted on a Ford Louisville or Ford C cabover although that would probably be a bit late for the usual vintage at your track. There are a few nice looking diecast fuel and water tanker banks out there in 1/24-1/34 pretty cheap, real common on ebay. Strip it, Pull the tank, wheels etc, hide the bank beginings of the tank and mount it on a vintage Ford or Chevy chassis.

David You can get the basic Mack truck for less than $20 on eBay (not the tanker). A quick trip to the plumbing section of your local hardware store will get you all of the material you need to make the tank. It would sure look cool!!
lordairgtar Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 I would think using Lindberg's Dodge L-700 and scratching a tank on the back would make a great water truck.
