Found this kit at a local Drug Mart on sale "cheap" and like I really need another kit but I figured I would just build a "quick slump buster"........ yeah ..... I never built this kit before but when I opened it up it brought back some memories of my modeling past,I see it was on the same platform of "Billy Carter's Redneck Power Pickup" ...... Crude engine detail,4x4 chassis or lack of but never the less a quick-ish curb side....

The one thing I noticed was how badly the hood and tow outer bed was warped, the hood looks like a lasagna noodle but it looks like it will glue down straight/flat being I am not going to have any engine detail and the bed test fitted and looks like it will fall together with a lil help......But now sooooo much for a quick build, the mor I looked at the cab the more I hated the visor, the cab light plate and for what ever reason the notch in the rear of the cab,I used some plastic strips for the back of the cab and sheet plastic to form a headliner and filler for the hole in the roof just don't know if I got the nerve to cut the visor off,I just might cut a groove along the top to at least make it look like a separate piece.... this is what I got done last nights sitting...any comments, ideas etc. are more than welcome..............thanks for lookin'

One thing I noticed about the grille, the lack of "GMC" in the center and the box says '77 but it looks more like a '79 grille with the chrome headlamp doors going around the park lights like the '79 GMC I had maaaany years ago.....

Cab "notch" filled in and shaped.

Filler plate shaped and in place......that's it for now........

Got a little bit done on the sanding, once I get the body work settled then I need to figure a paint scheme , thinking of white with blue/red trim and use American Oil decals.

  Mike,

you are off to a good start on this project. These kits can be a fun build and offer a variety of possibilities. I like your roof filler panel. Looks good from here .

I'm with you on that piece of trim.....I'm sure it speaks '70's loud and clear, but I don't think it looks very stylish, either.....Great job, so far....Keep it up....

Thanks JT ! and it does speak 70's but I am not sure the 70's would wanna claim that....

Even though this is gonna be a "curb side" build the front straight axle just doesn't sit well with me so I got a old 4x4 axle and using it to add the the straight axle to give it a sorta correct look from a display view

Picture of the "roughed in" look, still got a bit of work to do to it.

Got the holes filled in on the wrecker bed from when I removed the whatever ornament on the side,I used a thin plastic sheet to cover from the back side and cut plastic pieces to fit the opening and sanded it down and now just put a thin layer of putty to hopefully finish it off cleanly and also messed with the front axle tracking and brought the wheels in closer hopefully they look about right....

Thanks for lookin' and as always comments, ideas and or suggestions always welcomed......

Looking good, Man....That's a good idea to add the differential to that axle.....It does add a little "something" to it....Cool.....

Thanks JT,I know it won't be 100% correct nor will it have much detail but I fell it would clean it up a bit.
