MBXPilot Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 Hey everybody! It's been quite a while since I've posted on here. I'm trying to get back into this side of the hobby, really excited about it actually. I picked up this Revell 1959 Cadillac to get me going again! Hopefully it'll turn out decently well. 3/6/17 by Logan Abner, on Flickr 3/6/17 by Logan Abner, on Flickr Starting with the engine, I think this is close to the correct shade of blue for the 390 V8. 3/6/17 by Logan Abner, on Flickr More to come soon! Thanks
MBXPilot Posted March 6, 2017 Author Posted March 6, 2017 Got the main part of the engine put together today. It ended up being a little humid to paint, got a bit of a crackle finish lol. But i actually think it looks alright! I'm going to let it sit overnight and then give it a final coat tomorrow. 3/6/17 by Logan Abner, on Flickr
MBXPilot Posted March 6, 2017 Author Posted March 6, 2017 No it's a smooth roof. I didn't know they did a textured roof. Was it like a vinyl roof, or stainless like the Eldorado Brougham?
mike 51 Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 I think it was a vinyl textured surface...tho I could be wrong about it being on the first issue.Either way, thanks for the reply...
Del Austin Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 How is this kit? I have always liked the subject, but never heard anyone say anything good about this kit.
MBXPilot Posted March 7, 2017 Author Posted March 7, 2017 Haha really? I'm not very far into it obviously, but I will report back any issues I find with it. Anything specific you've heard, other than the usual final fitment issues?
microwheel Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 I built one of these years ago when they first came out. I didnt have a single issue building the kit and as a matter of fact I detailed it out quite a bit and it was a dream to build. I dont remember any version of this kit being a vinyl top version. At least the first release one I had didnt. But there may have been something after it. But I got out of the hobby in the mid 90s for a while.
mike 51 Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Revell describes the current issue (and likely other issues) as having a vinyl textured top. An odd mistake for them to make but....it's not too likely they would have removed it.Perhaps that's where I got the idea it had one?Anyway..I'm pleased to hear it doesn't A modified re-issue as a series 62 or a Coupe de Ville would be very nice to have.
Againmikewins Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Does this issue come with the textured roof?Wasn't the textured roof the convertible top? I've seen it before, but can't remember.
MBXPilot Posted March 8, 2017 Author Posted March 8, 2017 Made a little bit of progress today! Got the chassis painted and somewhat detailed. 3/8/17 by Logan Abner, on Flickr Interior parts painted. 3/8/17 by Logan Abner, on Flickr And the body primed! 3/8/17 by Logan Abner, on Flickr
MBXPilot Posted March 25, 2017 Author Posted March 25, 2017 Progress is slow! Got the chassis mostly done, ready to fit the engine. I test fit the body, everything is looking good! 3/24/17 by Logan Abner, on Flickr 3/24/17 by Logan Abner, on Flickr 3/24/17 by Logan Abner, on Flickr
MrObsessive Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 (edited) The very first issue of this kit has the smooth roof as I have one, but the body is warped particularly the C pillars. The next issue IIRC, has the textured vinyl roof which would be correct for the Eldorado as that was an option in '59. Everything's lookin' good so far Logan! I can only give you one tiny little tip..............don't forget to paint the headlight bezels body color! A lot of folks miss this detail in their buildups, and even the box art car missed it. Keep up the good work! Edited March 25, 2017 by MrObsessive
72 Charger Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Watch for the front window when you remove it from the tree . I have found that the window breaks straight up the middle if your not careful .
PARTSMARTY Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 I like where this is going-I like old caddy's and used to work for cadiilac !!!
Can-Con Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Bill makes a good point about the headlight bezels. Every '59 Caddy kit I can remember does the headlight area like that with the section moulded to the chrome piece instead of the fender though, including both Ghostbusters kits and the original JoHan kit and promo. That said, I have come across a couple pics of cars done as the kits do it but I don't think they came from the factory that way. Here's a good pic illustrating just what he means.
MBXPilot Posted March 26, 2017 Author Posted March 26, 2017 Thanks for the tips gentlemen! I'll make sure to paint the bezels when I get to that point.
RichCostello Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 The kit that I've got from 2005 (brown car on box) has the vinyl top.
Cpt Tuttle Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 If it's anything like the 59 Impala kit, it is probably great, since that is one of the best kits I've built....
