59 Impala Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I'm converting this to 4wd by using the chassis and drive line from the Mule Skinner Chevy truck kit. I changed it from an automatic to a stick also. Here are some pics of what she looks like so far. I'll post more pics. Thanks fer lookin Dan
59 Impala Posted June 2, 2008 Author Posted June 2, 2008 I made the sparetire carrier opperational. Here are some pics of it. Again, thanks fer lookin Dan
Nick F40 Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I love my 4X4s and I love old pickups and these Fords were always nice.
Bernard Kron Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Very cool! Trucks lend themselves to some great details. Love the whole conversion approach you're taking. The working spare tire carrier is a great touch. Definitely a build to follow.
abedooley Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 LOVE IT! Great work man. Ya gotta love the conversion as if it was a real rig. Keep it up. ABE
59 Impala Posted June 3, 2008 Author Posted June 3, 2008 Thanks for the comments guys. This is one that I like to do. I had to move the rear fenders back about 1/4 of an inch for the wheel base and also I had to extend the running boards to meet the fenders. The taillights are going to be 49 Merc. This will be my first Yellow build ever. I do have a problem though, the windshield is really messed up. It has a line through it from the factory, like a hot knife or something melted the glass. I have to find a new windshield for it somewhere. I will be posting more pics when I can. Dan
kasteer Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Great looking truck! Great work on all the mods. Did you consider making a windshield for it out of clear plastic?
59 Impala Posted June 3, 2008 Author Posted June 3, 2008 Did you consider making a windshield for it out of clear plastic? kasteer Thanks for the nice comment, and yes sir, I sure did. A friend of mine who does vacuforming tried to vacuform one for me and it turned out with a lot of air bubbles in it. So, I can't use it. I tried to make one from clear acetate, but that didn't work either. A friend on another forum said that he might have one for me, so, I'll wait and see if he does have one. Dan
