Brian Fishburn Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 REALLLY???? WOW.. I cant believe ya'll meet so CLOSE to me! It's the bank thats right next to one of the funeral homes or at least a few doors down? Didnt that bank get robbed a few times 4 or 5 years ago? If anyone knows my town, that is very strange to happen here.. We have somewhere like 1 cop to every 10 cictizens or something like that. We've been named one of Americas top 100 safest cities. Do I need to bring anything? Do you guys bring your work with ya? My boys would probably want to come too... Is that okay?? They'd LOVE to go and see some PROFESSIONALS work. They've been sitting here in amazement (along with me) at all the beautiful work on here.. I WILL definitely be there sir... THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE INVITE!!!!! ABE DOOLEY OOOOOHHHH NNNNOOOOO!!!! THATS FATHER'S DAY WEEKEND ISN'T IT???? I have a family reunion in GOOD OL' KENTUCKY that day... Whens the next time you guys meet?? It'll give me more time to finish the Challenger if you guys bring your work. Seeins how my woman "accidentally" threw my last 2 (which was the only thing that survived my childhood) away. Either that or they're lost for good. They weren't that great anyway. I cant wait. I feel like a lil' kid again. P.S. Are there many people from Columbus in the meeting? Abe, the majority of our club is from Columbus. We're a small club, but I really like it. The average meeting will have a half dozen guys, but if you come and bring the boys, we'll be bigger and better. We meet the second Saturday of every month, same place, at 3pm. You and the boys are very welcome at any and every meeting. The only thing that ever changes it is weather or if the date conflicts with a model contest relatively locally. We have our own contest every September at the Bartholemew Co fairgrounds. How old and how many are your boys, and are they into snap kits or are they past that already? I have a slew of leftover Revell 34 Ford snappers left over from last year's Goodguys make and Take. I was told if I didn't take the kits, they would be trashed, so I took them, and have been getting them into the hands of kids ever since. If it's something they'd like, I'll bring one for each and any that would be interested. And we'll plan on it being the July meeting, since you have the reunion next weekend. You'll need to make sure to remind me before the meeting, though- I'm notoriously forgetful. You can reach me at bfishburn@indy.rr.com or (317)514-2232 Looking forward to getting to meet you in person!
Guest zebm1 Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 See what happens when a bunch of Southern boyz get together...we talk about every thing...even make new friends...even shake hands wid Yankees......
Modelmartin Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 Oh Zeb! Look what you have started. There is now no way ever that this liberal tree-hugging hippy will ever go to the south! You folks are quite frightening. I love living in the middle of two of the most liberal cities in the country. Minneapolis and St. Paul went for John Kerry by 4 to 1 in 2004. My congressman is a Black muslim who took his oath on Thomas Jefferson's Koran. I voted for him. My city councilperson is actually Green Party. Unfortunately our state legislature allowed conceal and carry laws to go into effect but allows individual property owners to ban guns on their premises. I wish I was in the sign business. There is hardly a building in the metro area without a sign explicitly banning guns on the premises, even construction sites! I am just laying this all out for y'all so you know enuff to not come and get infected with liberal disease by coming up here. Your redneck bona-fides may be compromised! Andy
MonoPed Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 (edited) Oh Zeb! Look what you have started. There is now no way ever that this liberal tree-hugging hippy will ever go to the south! You folks are quite frightening... Ya know Andy, Those of us here in FL, especially those of us who were born here (Florida Crackers), are by and large a "live and let live" group of folks. We revel in individual freedom, have a healthy respect for the Constitution (THE Constitution and our state's Constitution), and generally get along with most folks who come to our fine state... even tree huggin' liberal hippies, as long as they remember the "live and let live" part Edited June 7, 2008 by MonoPed
LUKE'57 Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 Started my son early. too. Here he is at about ten with my Ruger short barrelled .41 Magnum Blackhawk. He wouldn't even point a cap pistol at you back then. I felt much safer going shooting with him than some of my adult friends. He's now thirty eight and owns several .45's of his own. He is a really good son too. I had a Ithaca Saddle Gun in .22 back when they were new and loved it. But it got sold, along with every other gun and model I had, in the divorce auction. Know what he bought me for Christmas a few years back? A brand new Henry lever action in .22 to match my Ruger Single Six. I told you he was a good son.

You can reach me at bfishburn@indy.rr.com or (317)514-2232 Looking forward to getting to meet you in person! I have 2 boys. 5 and 7 and they would absolutly LOVE that. That is so great! They have been telling me that they want to do a kit since I got my challenger nearly 2 months ago. My youngest thinks my Daytona is his and "HE'S" gonna paint it when I get done with my Challenger. Both the boys were sittin with me at the computer the week before last and I was on the Revell sight checkin out what I might do next and they told me they wanted to look for a "PROJECT". YES, that is what they said, and they were serious!! I haven't built a model since right before the youngest was born and the oldest must have been only 2 and they're already nearly as obsessed with it as I am. I let them help me paint some peices here and there and they can't get enough!!! Everyday when I sit down at the work bench to do some work they ask "When are you gonna paint that part Big Daddy? Can we do it?". And they get that look on their faces that wont let you say no to them unless you're heartless. I've been telling them I'd get them a kit for the last 2 weeks, but times are tight (for everybody) so I finally made them a promise that I would get them each a kit this week whether I had the money or not. So, come tuesday, hell or high water, Caleb (youngest) is getting the Concept Camaro snap kit and Austin (the oldest) is getting the '70 Chevelle snap kit. I'm sure once they get those done they'll want to do more. I know they dont need to be painted, but I told them they could paint them if they really wanted to. I think thats the whole reason they're so into it. They paint alot of pictures and they saw the slot car posts and now they've got me tapin off those so they can paint them tomorrow. LIL' CUSTOMIZERS!! I love it as much as they do. Now I see why my grandpa bought me all those kits when I was a kid. He must have loved watching me put those together as much as I love my boys getting the MODEL BUG! The first kit I ever did was a '79? Jeep CJ or Wrangler. I remember I wanted that one because it was like my Dad's. Iam really looking forward to meeting youg guys at the July meeting. I WILL be there with Austin and Caleb. They said today that they wanted to go. Do you guys bring any of your WIP or finished work?? Hopefully I'll have at least my '70 Challenger done by then and my Daytona started. THANKS VERY MUCH BRIAN, ABE DOOLEY
Brian Fishburn Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 Abe- We love seeing finished and WIP stuff! Bring anything that pertains to the hobby. We have one older gentleman who has an UNBELIEVABLE stash of old kits, and he usually brings one or two every month for us to drool over. Last month it was an original MPC 66 Charger and an original AMT 64 Grand Prix. Anything car-related and cool is welcome. I take in my hot wheels restros and customs, people gring in car magazines. It's all good. We're very informal, friendly and just like to share the hobby with others. I got kits with your little guys names on them. see ya in July!

Nick F40 Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Blame the media,T.V. and Movies for stereo typing the "Redneck" veiw of the south. YES See what happens when a bunch of Southern boyz get together...we talk about every thing...even make new friends...even shake hands wid Yankees...... isn't this what it's all about? "even tree huggin' liberal hippies, as long as they remember the "live and let live" part now how come you and I for that matter are allowed to say "Florida Cracker" and it doesn't get mentioned, start a debate or get somebody offended? HMMMM Why are calling us names and making redneck stereotypes ok? why is racism and dicrimination only seemed to be applying for black community?? I thought racism was discrimination against ANY...ANY...ANY racial group and discrimination meant the difference and recognition of qualities. Now, that doesn't say anything about that. So, if it's the same meaning then why doesn't what I said above apply or go with? And apparently with the photos I have and posted and what I read in ACTUAL history books and personal references, not the ones they teach kids nowadys, it's not with the battle flag and the whole southern life, even with the war.
Guest zebm1 Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 (edited) Wall Nick, that because Flawduh Crackers are well known as Genteel (that's gentlemen-suthernspeak) Rednecks....and yall better SMILE BIG when ya say that, hehehe. Oh an BTW, we got us sum mighty fine Clean-up crews down here yall....Yall know what we Flawduhns call non-swimmers? BAIT And then there's that 25 Mile Swim in tha Gulf of Mexico...... Jello Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 The rest of the world thinks us Rednecks, Crackers and whatever else they call us are bad people and I even hear they teach that in dem 'scools these days too. Course we know what goes on in dem public 'scools today with dem teachers rewriting the civil war which explains why dem kids hate us so much. My folks ( we are railroad people) moved to south fla in the early '20s ( from GA) and moved to north fla later and back then, there lots of dem wooden cracker houses and even my G'ma owned one when I was a kid. Back then that was good living and everybody helped each other and was always polite even to strangers from out of town and we always had food on the table but not always had money..nobody went hungry fo sho! Life was hard no doubt but there was always plenty of work to do. We took care of our people and even policed them..those that stepped out line got themselves a good whopping and if that didn't work, you never saw them again! Theres still plenty of us around today and we are doing well and we still care about others, always have food on the tables even for strangers. Always plenty of fresh biscuits, homemade jam, bacon, grits, fry chicken & taters with peach & blueberry pies! We can't no longer watch over all the people and theres always those 'fake' rednecks making things harder and spoiling it all for everybody by waving rebel & nazi flags acting like they are real southern people which they are not..folks like are dime a dozen and easy to spot & smell miles away! For some odd reason, certain groups of people think we owned slaves and that we shall be punished for it...truth be told, no southern people actually 'owned' slaves..it was less than 7% of the poeple living in the south that 'owned' slaves and that 7% was foreigners as in nonsoutherns! That how the slave trade started in the first place. No decent Irish/Southern people would even think to "own" a person and we did our own farm work..history shows that if some of y'all could be bother to take the time to read all about it..forget the internet, its full of BS! Even those Southerns who were not Irish didn't have slaves either. And yet, 'certain groups' blame us....I don't have the best education in the world but I can read & write and I do know my history as well. I spend all my life working hard for what I have now and nobody is going to take that away from me or the other Southern people. I don't like it one bit when people try to change history to justify their action$ and no thanks to old dishonest Abe for throwing in the first lie about Southern people cause nothing has been the same since. I'll cut this story short for now. There, now I said my piece! ~ Jeff
Guest zebm1 Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Just found this on another forum, kinda fits here http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/4/21/19...5152/392/496931 Very interesting comments Joe. Brings to my mind something I learned back in tha mid 70s. Back then I used to War Game a lot, I mean a LOT, and I was a member/subscriber to a War-gamers Club called "Strategy & Tactics". They had a Column that came with their Bi-monthly magazine (also contained a new startegy/war game about all kinds of subjects). The column contained info on the Current "Real World" state of military affairs. The point of this is what the 2nd Amendment really means concerning those who have considered Invading the U.S.A. There was an Article that was written by a former Soviet General Officer, who had defected, and was attached to the Strategic Plans Section of the Soviet Army. After Kruschev said, "We will bury you.", they began to undertake an assessment of what would be required to invade and secure the U.S.A. After doing the calculations, they realized that even if they sent every division of the European and Asian Armies to invade and secure the U.S.A., they would never have enough boots on the ground, because of the 2nd Amendment and the fact that most of America is armed and dangerous and the Partisan Element would bring about a crushing defeat. So the Soviets shelved their plans as unsolvable. It is too bad that our current Leaders didn't learn from what the Soviets learned in Afghanistan, a well armed, determined civilian militia is a Black Hole for any major power to get involved in. 10 years of war in Afghanistan...and tha Soviets who have always had larger armies than we, the U.S.A., went home with their tails between their collective legs. We established, by Constitutional Law, a well-armed civilian "militia". You'd have thought our Leaders should have known better.
Brian Fishburn Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Joe, you shouldn't post links to logic, common sense and constitutional rights in a forum where there is debate on gun ownership. Dealing with the anti gun crowd using logic and facts isn't really fair. It's not like taking a gun to a knife fight, it's more like taking a tactical nuke to a Scrabble game.

Well written and actually fun to read. Wish a lot of my professors in college taught like that. Agree Joe, it belongs here and proves that our Founding Fathers knew what they were doing when they drafted the "rules for being an American"! Edited June 8, 2008 by Jairus
Jairus Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Yes, Ken that was very funny. The two words are both spelled correctly and spell check didn't catch it, nor did my slight dyslexia. Thanks for the help!

Tonioseven Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Hi. I'm originally from Ohio but have been a Floridian since 10/06. I work for the state and I'll admit seeing the Confederate flag is somewhat unnerving for me but we live in a free country and hey, I'll respect those that respect me. As a Florida resident, I'm well on my way to seeing about getting whatever license I can get to own and carry a handgun. I do not wish to harm anyone but I have a wife and 2 beautiful kids that I'm willing to die for in an instant. I only come here for the models but I had to comment on this topic. I work for the state and I'm a decent law-abiding citizen that only wants to have a safe place for my family to live and if I need to have a gun to ensure that, then so be it. I see all kinds of things going on around me but I mind my own business. Sorry for dragging this off-topic; I'll get back to my model bench now.
Modelmartin Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I kind of like living in a place where I don't need a gun to be feel safe. I have never felt unsafe in Minnesota. I can not recall a time in my life when I ever felt like I needed that kind of protection anywhere I have lived or travelled. Y'all must encounter a lot of hairy situations down south and in the woods of Oregon and the urban jungle of Detroit (I can understand the need in Detroit) and all of your various locations. I don't mean to pick on any one locale. Is there an actual need or is it is just fear? I am curious. Andy
Guest zebm1 Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 There used to be a Law down in Flawduh Andy where you were required to turn your back on a robber and run for your Life. Didn't work and the gun crime rate got way out of hand. So now we've gone tha other way..and gun crime is way, way down, but we still have gangbangers doin' drive-bys and home invasions, bank robberies, etc.

Most of us who own guns don't do so because we feel unsafe. Personally, I feel very safe in this state in the area where I live. We have guns because we believe that it is our responsibility to protect our families, ourselves and our property, should the need ever arise.
tony218 Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 sorry to make this my first post but, after reading some of this thread i thought this might help some GA. folks georgiapacking.org and georgiacarry.org they can answer any gun related questions you may have.
