misterNNL Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 I found a record in our local historical society museum that our village purchased our first gasoline fire engine in 1910 from the Waterson Engine Works from St.Paul,Mn.I have done a little on line searching looking for more information but have not found anything.Any members know of a source for further info.?
Dodge Driver Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 (edited) Tom- I found this while poking around the internet. http://news.american-usa.com/2016/11/15/waterous-providing-innovative-fire-protection-products-for-130-years/ Different spelling, but right place and product. See what you think Edited July 31, 2017 by Dodge Driver
waynehulsey Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 I was thinking Waterous also when I saw your post. Did a bit of digging and think you're dealing with a typo. See this entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterous_Engine_Works_Co._Ltd.
misterNNL Posted August 1, 2017 Author Posted August 1, 2017 You could be right about the spelling. These are hand written long hand pen and ink village council records from 1909.I plan on doing more research as time permits.Every village expenditure was posted in our village newspaper so I have a three foot thick stack of 100 + year old very well preserved newspapers to sort through and read.
misterNNL Posted August 5, 2017 Author Posted August 5, 2017 You guys are 100 percent correct on the spelling of the rnanufacutrer's name spelling.I re-read those 1910 notes and "Waterous" is exactly what it was.I still plan on reading those papers to see I can find out some more information the firetruck itself.
waynehulsey Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 (edited) https://www.chezbois.com/non_corgi/matchbox/Model_11193.htmHere's a link to a Matchbox model of a 1906 Waterous, imagine would be about the same. After doing some digging, seen several Waterous gasoline fire engines in that period....But it was using a gasoline engine, instead of a steam engine, to power the pump. They were still horse drawn, even in the ads they were called gasoline powered fire pumps to emphasis that they weren't steam. So this might have been a possibility also. http://www.auctionsamerica.com/events/feature-lots.cfm?SaleCode=AF14&ID=r0543&Order=price&feature=&collection=&grouping=&category= Edited August 5, 2017 by waynehulsey more info
