Tonight some progress and a slight setback. First, the progress.

I completed the engine work, including a scratchbuilt coil module.

I got the engine and bed installed.

I also got the firewall painted and clear coated and all of the bits that attach to the firewall painted.

Now for the setback. I was painting a small part acrylic flat black and was holding it with a pair of tweezers when it went sailing and skidded across the top of the bed cover.

No matter how much I wiped and washed it there is still some marks. Fortunately it was only across the top. I'll have to tape it off and spray it again. The other good thing is that I have a definite edge that will ease the blending, if any is needed.

Enough work for tonight. Time for bed.

So, pull up a chair and listen to my tales of woe.

I had the bed glued on to the chassis. In order to fix the paint splatter on the bed cover I taped off everything except the bed cover and threw a quick coat of primer, a couple coats of paint and a couple of clear, all with the proper amount of drying time. Once I removed the tape I saw that I had not properly sealed everything and had a bit of white over spray on my front tires and the underside of the engine and front suspension. Also, my tape removed the two Lightning decals on the bed sides!!!!

These are not the easiest or cheapest kits to find so I was quite frustrated. I packed it all back in the box and called it done. The next day cooler heads prevailed and I posted on some FB sites for two tires and a set of decals. One guy offered up two tires for free and another (from Canada) offered up the decals, also for free.

I have since touched up the over spray on the underside and replaced the tires. I am still waiting for the decals to arrive although he sent me a message saying he mailed them on the 26th.

On to the progress.

I have been planning on a bit more engine bay details such as A/C hoses.

I'm feeling good that I didn't give up on this one. It has had it's moments but they have all been my fault. The kit is a very good kit and easy to build. Tomorrow I should be able to get the cab and bed on the chassis and finish up a few small details. Hope the decals show up tomorrow.

When I repainted the bed cover I got a dime sized spot of orange peel on the back passenger corner of the cover. After three attempts to sand it down , reprime and repaint it continued to show back up. So I sanded it down a fourth time and sprayed a few mist coats from a foot above to give the bed cover a textured look. Problem solved!

Tomorrow I will get back to my plan of attaching the bed and cab to the chassis.

Thank you Dave. I realize now why I usually customize all of my builds. This one is pretty boring, especially in white.

Did you cut open the grill on it? Also did you shave off the emblem on the drivers side fender or does it come like that?

Anthony, yes I did cut open the grille. I started this years ago to be a replica of a guys truck. He drag raced his and had an intercooler installed. He also had a custom badge on the passenger side so I removed the stock one. Once I finally got back on the build I decided to go stock on it. No intercooler and badge.
