Has anyone ever swapped parts between the AMT 32 Ford Roadster & AMT 32 Phantom Vicky? The frame of the Vicky is a bit longer than the old AMT 32 Ford frame (to accommodate the Mustang Cobra engine? Because roadster frames were just shorter?).

Has anyone built the old 32 body onto the newer 32 Phantom frame?

Thanks!

I haven't done a full buildup, but being a curious sorta fella (as to what '32 Ford parts will swap around), I HAVE done enough of a mockup to know it's possible without a lot of grief.

The lower front fender aprons on the fender unit need to be trimmed, and a little material needs to be shaved from the inner faces of the fender unit sides towards the rear.

The frame rail kickups and crossmembers are in the correct places.

It's not a drop-in, but it's not particularly difficult either.

The frame is a natural under any fenderless car based on either the AMT or Revell kits too.

Thanks Bill! Looks like I'm in luck then, I usually ditch the fenders on my 32's anyway.

The Phantom Vicky has some nice parts, especially the swept back hallock windshield, which is why I bought the kit in first place. The separate floor and two piece seat is nice as well. I think that'll be my next project, a mashup of the two kits.

Just a note, depending on where you're headed with this build. if you're looking for accuracy of the body, perhaps you should start with the Revell 32 roadster body. The AMT body has the look of being wedge sectioned ahead of the front door line, curving up quite dramatically. I know the original AMT '32 kits from the early 60's are classics, but the bodies in the cowl area just are not accurate. But if you're just looking for fun, then build away!

Thanks Craig, I just build for fun and I can deal with the inaccuracies of the AMT bodies. The Revell 32's do build up nicely, but they feel "off" to me, like they're just a bit larger even though they're supposed to be 1/25 scale. However, I will look at both the AMT and Revell cowls tonight. Thanks!

This is how much difference there is in the cowl height of ALL the AMT bodies, and ALL the Revell bodies (on left).

After correction, the AMT bodies will look like about this at the bottom (the line could be straighter, less fish-bellied) but you still need to re-scribe the door lines.
