Jim B Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 So, after my disaster with the IVECO-Magirus, I needed a quick build. So I picked the Revell 1941 Chevrolet Pickup. I'm hoping to finish it as a USFS truck. Here is where I am now:
Atmobil Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Cool!! I like the ida of USFS truck. And that box art needs to go in the "worst box art" thread. I wonder why Revell went for those wheels and look on the boxart as this kit is a gem.
Jim B Posted January 1, 2018 Author Posted January 1, 2018 Thanks. I guess Revell thought the custom look would appeal to the younger crowd. They did it with the 1950 Ford F1 as well, but at least the 1941 Chevrolet can be built completely stock. I don't think the Ford F1 can (incorrect engine).
Jim B Posted January 2, 2018 Author Posted January 2, 2018 A little more progress today on the frame & engine.
bill lanfear Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 I like where this is going, looking great!

True, I just looked in those 2 kits recently (planning an eBay sale). The custom version has a non-stock engine with Ardun heads and triple carbs. Revell usually gets around to putting all the options into one box eventually and calling the kit a 2-n-1. But I don't believe they've done that yet with the 50 Ford pickup, though I could be wrong.
gotnitro? Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 Looks good jim knew ya needed a quick build after the IVECO Pardon my ignorance but what's USFS
Jim B Posted January 3, 2018 Author Posted January 3, 2018 Thanks, Jeff. I was attaching the front fenders to the IVECO, and the drivers seat popped loose! In order to repair that, I had to get the interior out of the cab. Not so easy with an Italeri multi-piece cab. Also, not sure how I'm going to get it back in, now. USFS is United States Forest Service. It's part of the Department of the Interior.

Bureau of Land Management, Fish and Wildlife Service, etc. are DOI.
Jim B Posted January 4, 2018 Author Posted January 4, 2018 Yes, that is true. My mistake. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Forest_Service
Crankenstien Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 hey jim looked the 50 could be built stock have to change the over valve back to the flat heads and intake but like the way your chevy is going
Jim B Posted January 4, 2018 Author Posted January 4, 2018 Thanks. I just swapped the kit engine for a Flathead V8 from another modeler. Gave him the wheels & tires, too.
Jim B Posted January 6, 2018 Author Posted January 6, 2018 While were on the subject of the 1941 Chevrolet, would anyone happen to have a spare front license plate bracket from this kit (P/N 23)? I need a second one, and I'd like it to match the other one. Thanks!

Jim B Posted January 14, 2018 Author Posted January 14, 2018 I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's still a long tunnel, though!
Jim B Posted January 29, 2018 Author Posted January 29, 2018 So, plugging along on the Chevrolet AK, and I have the bed painted; but as I was painting it I realized that I really have no idea what the floor of the bed should be. It has a wood floor molded in, so should this be natural wood? Was it painted stock from the factory? If so, what color? I'm pretty sure that the light at the end of the tunnel is the headlamp of an oncoming train!
Jim B Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 I was leaning towards flat black for the bed floor. I friend of mine sent me this: http://www.gmcpauls.com/47-72_BedWood_Info.htm It's for the 1947-72 GMC pickup, but the 1941 A/K is close (sort of) to the Advanced Design. Looks like they were coated with linseed oil & lampblack. So, flat black it is!
Jim B Posted February 25, 2018 Author Posted February 25, 2018 Just a few more details, and I'll be calling this one done!
Jim B Posted April 3, 2018 Author Posted April 3, 2018 This one is done! Here is the Under Glass thread: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/forum/54-under-glass-pickups-vans-suvs-light-commercial/?do=add
