An observation and a question about the older Polar Lights stock car chassis.

I recently bought the Bobby Allison reissue of the older Polar Lights stock car kit. When I was looking at the chassis I noticed a peculiar thing - there are parking brake cables molded in it. Why?

Those were based on the then-cuurently available factory stock model kits.

Polar Lights didn't make a factory stock Torino or Cyclone. Did they crib something from another company? An AMT Torino? The Monogram Talladega kit is 1/24th so I think would exclude it. So what's left?
