Ace-Garageguy Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 (edited) Music's a little dorky, but everything is here, from what is to me the middle of drag racing's golden age. Gassers, early FX cars, blown rail dragsters, M/SP cars, altereds...yeah, baby. At 11:50, that's Pontiac's marketing ace Jim Wangers driving a B/FX Poncho. Compare that to GM's fake-focus-group marketing today. Edited March 11, 2018 by Ace-Garageguy
Erik Smith Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Very cool video. Love the sound of Dave Strickler’s Old Reliable going by at 11:35 or so. 1000 cars? That’s an incredible amount of drag racing.
espo Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Brings back so many great memories. I was living on the west coast at that time so 1963 thru 1965 I attended the Winter Nationals at Pomona. Many of the same competitors would be at the Winter Nationals also. I remember wondering in the pits and noticed a Black Impala with the Hood raised enough to let the heat out but not enough to really see the engine. The thing that stood out to me was the way the hood was deforming over the Radiator area. This was when I first learned of the Chevrolet FX class cars with the Aluminum front ends and Bumpers. The '64 Ford Thunder Bolts let a lasting impression. Always enjoyed the MoPar 413/426 wedge cars and of course the Hemi's. Something about listening and watching a "Stock Class" car going thru the gears that just never goes away.
