Saw something on a Model A firewall that I've never seen before.

Looks like some kind of indentation for maybe a heater ? However all the heater holes I've seen for model A's were simply holes with no indentations.

I've only seen it on this one Coupe until I watched Jesse James Hot Rod show on Velocity, on a car he built for  Paul Sr.

Then look, he's selling it.http://rods-classics.com/content/paul-srs-1930-ford-model-coupe  :o

It was a feature on later 31 Model A's. Indented firewall. The gas shut off valve moved into this indentation from where it used to be inside the car.

Yup, that's what I found. The location is the same as the non-indented firewall for the fuel outlet from the tank.

Yes, my 31 Town sedan was built in April 1931 and probably just missed being built with the indented firewall. They introduced the Indented firewall in April 31 and slowly converted all plants over to using it. Being a Canadian car it was likely closer to May before our Ford plants got it.

Those late 31 teardrop firewalls (only about 7 months worth of production depending on which source you believe) are sought after by hot rodders due to their uniqueness.
