Dodge Magnum SRT8

This is my second American Muscle. Problem is, the manual is confusing. I mean, how could there be a part in the engine that is gloss orange? I can't start it unless someone can guide me on this. Thanks guys.

Gloss orange may have been the color the factory actually used. However, after a few years exposure to heat, oil and fumes... the color would lose it's shine some. Personally, I never paint engines, transmissions or running gear glossy colors unless the model is to be SHOW ROOM STOCK!

Most of my models represent lightly used or greater because the detail and realism is more interesting to me.

As Jairus mentioned, the factory does use a bright orange for their SRT-8 blocks only IIRC.

Here are a couple pics of the engine I did for my Magnum a while back.............

The block is the only thing to get painted the orange according to a brochure I used showing the engine being built. In this case I used Krylon OSHA (safety) Orange, which IMO is an exact match for the orange Chrysler used.

It won't make a critical difference as the engine is all but buried once the car is built...................

All you'll see is the top of it anyway!

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I got it black, as I don't have gloss orange with me now. I have completed the engine block, but the "HEMI" lettering got smudged. The silver paint I used was too thick and resulted in it looking like that. The other side ("HEMI 6.1L") is quite okay. I will upload the pictures soon.

E-man, glad to see some AMERICAN stuff on the ol bench! Not that I din't think your other builds weren't real cool, but beein an ol muscle car freak, It does the ol cockels of my heart good to see a HEMI under the hood of one of your builds! Would that rascal fit in the engine bay of one of your tuners? just a thought, but I'm sure IF you WANTED to, you could make that bad boy fit!

I'm pretty sure you can easily touch up the smudged 'HEMI' lettering with a fine-point black ink pen, like a Micron 005 or even an ultra-fine black Sharpie.

Good suggestion. But I will have to find for a Sharpie that is that small first.

A little update. Body has been sprayed silver (again??!!) and dry fitted. Good thing that so far there has been no fitment issues.

I removed the front molded on grille, which looks horrible. I will use some netting to replace it. And rather unfortunately, I broke the bottom lip of the bumper.
