afxmustang
I've never built a NASCAR model before. Somewhere I managed to acquire a couple of AMT thunderbirds so I thought I'd give in a try. I have a couple of quick questions. What year are the AMT T-Bird kits? Are all the engines aluminum in color? Am I correct to assume that NASCAR does not allow chrome rims? Lastly do you scuff up the tires like you would a drag slick or do you leave them as they are? Thank you in advance for any info.

Old Coyote
And chrome wheels were allowed up to 1988.
Jim N
The AMT's can build into nice models; although, many use them for their chassis as a donor. I built several of the AMT's, but not the Ford. The one thing that bothered me about the kits is that the tires have a habit of fitting outside of the fenders. I don't know if this occurred with the Fords, but the picture below gives you an idea what I am writing about.
Dave Van
The AMT Thunderbirds nose is really badly shaped. Chassis and engine are nice, build well. Engines should be a dark metallic, almost black....dark gun metal.
