Force Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 (edited) AITM has the old KW sleeper with one piece doors and wavy back wall, I just bought two for an upcoming project...two you say?!?...well the Tyrone Malone Boss Truck Of America had two sleepers of that style. I guess they are pretty rare. Not much of a Detroit fan, but the 1693 would be sweet! Now if we can only get cargostar ( models by Dave) to offer a resin extended cowl for us! Force Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 KFS has the 1693 marked as "Yellow Engine" and I think Spaulding Trading And Shipping may have it, he sells stuff from KFS and I bought one from him once on ebay a while ago.

Force Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 The Super Boss hood is the longer 74 inch hood. What's talked about here is the cowl extension used on trucks with higher horse power engines before the longer 74 inch hood came into production in 1970, they extended the cowl on the cab and used the shorter 63 inch hood without cutouts for the air cleaner tubes.
PettyKW43 Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 As another side note , the top was smooth until sometime in ‘67 when the v shaped bulge appeared. And yes a narrow nose hood could be had with an extended cowl panel but few if any were ordered that way !

There was an extra wide grille with a very large radiator as an option for the T800, but that wasn't available until the late 80's or early 90's.
SpreadAxle Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 I learned a lot from this thread. I have the KW sleeper from AITM and I notice that compared to the amt kit sleeper it's shorter in height. Is that accurate or is this sleeper casting too short?
PettyKW43 Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 I thought it looked short, which means it is designed for the earlier KW cab, pre 63 small window. If one want to back date the AMT kit coffin box remove the moulded in panel line and upper door handle, move the vent panels to the front of the doors and add the ribs to the back panel . Two ways to do it either pirate the ribs off of a Mercury box or get evergreen styrene strips and add them in .
bignate Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 Sorry to bring up a thread that’s over a year old but, does anyone know the actual dimensions for the cowl extension panel. Is it the same 11” that the extended hood added? Thanks, Nate
clayton Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 So extending cow would give it a exhood look rite??
