I was searching evil bay for a MPC era Knight Rider kit mostly for the body shell as only the early 82/83 issues had the front fender 'extractor' vents that were on the real car throughout the entire 4 season run. I have one of the more recent re issue and a 89 re pop of the MPC kit but as it was sharing tooling with the 89 Trans am it had the TURBO Trans Am markings and smooth front fenders. i came across this:

what is this guy smoking?

so let me get this straight he wants 33 bucks for a kit from 88 that is opened, some parts have been glued and painted. if that was not bad enough he glued the glass to the body shell before he the bars you have to remove to reinforce the front windshield area which is more fragile than the non t top body shells.

i want to meet the idiot who would pay his 'buy it now' price

oh if the link does not work just type in the item#310023076193 in the search box at ebay.com

Give me a minute and I think I have what your looking for.(in parts)

wow really?

that would rock as the only major thing wrong with the more current re issue is the body shell (the rest of the kit is identical to the 80s issue) but the fact that it is molded in gray instead of black makes for painting the the car that much easier.

It appears to have a stock frontend and sideskirts, I think it might have been a FireBird GTA

The front windsheild frame aint perfect but it's not broken either..

Em me your info

nope that body shell is defiantly the 83 vintage. they did 3 versions of this kit

original 83 vintage based on a 82/83 trans am

89 reissue shared tooling with the 89 trans am 20th anniversary car (both kits had the trans am logo on the C pillar and TURBO Trans Am on the front fenders and no fender vents)

current re issue except molded in gray plastic and clear glass instead of tinted and a few extra parts from the 89 pace car kit it is an almost exact re pop of the 89 re issue.

I will send you a PM with all my contact info ASAP!

The reason Starting Prices are going up on evulBay is the result of several factors. The recession (buyers are low-balling bids) evulBay is trying to get Sellers to offer "FREE Shipping" and Low Starting Prices of $0.99. Can you imagine? You start your model at $0.99....it sells for $4.95 and the Buyer wants Priority Mail at oh....$8.00......so the Seller is not only giving the model away but is also losing money. :P

:P Zeb, so why use the bay at all? I haven't even gone there since Bill Geary helped me find my 65 Chrysler 300. Never liked the idea of havin to bid more than what somethin was worth. I paid 148.11 cents which was ALOT more than I thought it was worth, BUT I DID want it,so I paid it.Fortunately, It's the only one that had that kind of value to me.I don't need anything else from those scalpers and it really doesn't bother me if I never go there again.Hope the rip-off sellers get no more money from folks who go there in good faith an get taken for exhorborant prices and ridiculous postal fees. :o

I paid a couple of years ago $40 for a built original AMT 3in1 1959 Ford 2 dr Hardtop, and it wasn't in the box. I looked at the 59 Sunliner by Revell, but I didn't like the convertible/hardtop roof, so I just decided to get patient and wait for the '59. When I found it, I bartered a little down but not much, as I am sure the seller could sense my immediate need.

It was built like we built our first kits back then. No paint, lots of decals, glued on louvres, skirts, continental kit, and numbers on the sides with moons.

The back story was that I had an old Craftsman Series 59 Ford which I sectioned, made a custom grille and headlights and taillights, and adapted a 57 Ford as donor kit. I was ready to rip the Florida model car circuit with it LOL, and it was primered, trunk opened and hinged, 427 Ford Revell motor, and all the amenities. I had just mocked it up and everything fit just right.

Then I got ill, and my wife inadvertently tossed out 10 of my pending custom projects while cleaning out the garage for my return home. Needless to say, I was less than impressed seeing the cleaned out garage, missing my projects.

Although this was not the cause, we are no longer married, and I am sectioning the 59, but very carefully, as I am first slicing into model car history, and second, slicing into a 40 dollor model.

Just call me "shakin'!!!"

I mentioned on another thread how I won't buy from sellers who can't take decent pics.

He says..............."KIT HAS BEEN STARTED LOOK CLOSE IN PICTURE ENGINE STARTED, MUFFLERS AND A FEW CHASSIS PARTS NEATLY PAINTED, WINDSHIELDS AND REAR LIGHT NEATLY GLUED IN PLACE NO GLUE MARKS"

How would we know that with such a faraway pic??? <_<

How hard is it to take a close up of a model unless your intent is to trick folks into buying?

Unfortunately, someone will buy this junk not knowing (or thinking) this is the original when like you said Dave, it's the later issue body.

I got the reissue a while back and that's the first thing I noticed was the missing fender vents which were on the 1:1 K.I.T.T. from 1982-83.

Resin kits are especially dangerous to buy when you can't see a GOOD closeup pic! In fact I'm very reluctant to buy any resin kit off the 'Bay, unless it's Modelhaus..............I might as well order from him in person just the same. ;)

Thats funny in a not so funny way! :) That kit was such a poor seller, it was often seen for sale for 1-2 dollars and still nobody wanted it even for free! 33 bucks is ridiculous but no doubt, someone will buy it and the kit will prolly sell for 50 bucks in 10 years from now. One time I had half dozen of those kits and gave them away to kids. I got them for .50 cents each.

Heres some real good advice, I never buy kits or resin stuff that I can't see or check out before buying unless its from a good friend or someone with a outstanding reputation...that also means, I don't use evil-bay either!

Those mid to late '80's 3rd gen MPC birds seem to be getting scarce, even on the bay.

how true most 3rd Gen F cars are hard to find the only one that is easy to find is the 91/92 Formula from Revell and even though the Revell/monogram cars had a tad more detailing like separate arm rests on the door panels and in some kits choice of open or closed head lights etc. the only thing i did not like about them was they had no T tops. that was always the thing i liked best about the MPC/Ertl kits.
