I'm currently finishing an AMT Ford Econoline van.  The only thing I haven't worked out is the interior rear view mirror.  On the real Econoline van the interior rear view mirror is mounted on the inside of the windshield.

Has anyone mounted a mirror on a windshield in a model car/van?  If so what type of glue works best?  Any pictures?

OK.............I did this years ago to my '63 Chrysler Turbine Car which had its mirror hanging from the windshield.

I remember taking a pin with a rounded head on it, flattening the head, and then I cut the pin to length. I put a small drop of epoxy on the area that area that I needed. I then let the epoxy set up for a bit--------not putting the pin on right away, as wanted the pin not to slip. I put the pin on let it set overnight, and then mounted the mirror and then let that sit fully.

This can be rather tricky and it might take you a couple tries to get it right.

The only thing I didn't do was paint the base of the pin black. That might be asking for trouble as the paint may separate from the epoxy, messing up the work that was done.

Hope this helps!

Bill, That looks great!

Did the epoxy yellow over time?

Hmmm..........good question! I'll have to check and see, but that little drop is so tiny, a bit of yellowing shouldn't be of major consequence.

When I get a chance, maybe I can get a closeup pic of how that looks now. Hard to believe I built that back in 2007. Time flies! :o
