I wanted to build a '72 and I knew the AMT reissue would probably need a little work...BUT sheeeesh!

this could be the poster child for everything bad you ever wanted to say about an AMT/Ertl kit!!..I used

the interior with some added detailing& flocking and the kit body, which took hours of sanding, filling,

filing, shaping and primering but it looks decent now. I found a set of resin honeycombs & correct front grill

for most of the rest I'm using the AMT '69 442 since the dimensions are very close and I scratched the

radiator/fan shroud & rad. support to look more like the 1:1...LOTS left to do

Nice job ,Brian. Love the Honey Combs. Keep us posted on the progress. What color combination are you going to use? Any one you choose will be sharp.

Thanks Rick...the color will be similiar to the 1:1 in my post sorta med. brn met. I wish I'd ordered the paint 2

It DOES look suspiciously like a 72 Goat - you SURE you're using the RC2 reissue?!?? :D:P

Looks great, Brian - I can imagine how much reworking went into getting a straight and well-defined body from the starting point. How many times have you had to sharpen your scriber since beginning this?? It takes a certain amount of pluck to keep plugging away on a project like this and not abandon it or relegate it to "Slammer" status - NICE WORK!!!:rolleyes::lol:

This is the final mock up to make sure everything fit ;) some more detailing in the engine bay will

be done later....now to get it painted!!..

AWWWW - Why do that and miss all the fun and excitement of glue spotches and chipped paint?!? Looks too good for its humble origins, Brian - nice weathering technique on the undercarriage!!! B)B)

 Brian, It sure looks like a GTO, but those side stripes kinda thru me off. I LOOKS like it might be a tricked out T-37(kinda like a GTO lite) They were supposed to be a "poor guys Goat" but ran just as strong, with the same engine options as the GTO.I THINK it was to get around the insurance regulators. Great build so far!

Yeah, it's not well known. Only brought out mid-year 1970 and carried over to '71, but that was it. It had "T37" badges behind the front wheelwells. And it had a chrome bumper, the GTO had the plastic "Endura" bumper. (I'm not sure, but maybe the GTO was available with the chrome bumper too, but the T37 was not available with the "Endura" bumper. I think... )

I see George mentions the side stripe...I'm assuming your refering to the 1:1 in my post?..the thing is I'm

not sure thats a stripe, but more an effect of (sun?) reflecting off the "crease" in the body HARRY?? your

the photo guru B) I have some other angles of this car and I still can't really tell

The T37 was 1970-71 only, for '72 and the "poor man's GTO" was the Lemans.

my second car ever was a lemans

but by then they were no longer the poor man's got, they were just the poor mans car

mine was a 90s 4 door model with a 1.4 engine

i would love to replicate it sometime but i dont think anyone ever made a kit of them

at any rate, i really love the color combination of the interior on the GTO

and the rims look very interesting, the look stock, but not for that particular car

cant wait to see paint on it though

It looks like striping. It's definitely NOT a highlight. But of course that doesn't mean it's a factory option... it could be some sort of aftermarket graphic.
