evilone Posted September 21, 2008 Author Posted September 21, 2008 That bad huh? well heck there's always the next show, and next year, so you can smoke'em then, later... GOTH KUSTOMS Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Yea you gotta keep an eye on us Arizona fools, we can be preaty slick sumetimes...
lordairgtar Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Just start working on that super top secret build....and tell no one!
RodBurNeR Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 i don't know how many guys have quit building because they can't "compare" or can't win a trophy. i know you aren't quitting, but even laying low because of a model contest IMHO....just doesn't make sense. i think you should do what you want to do, but i don't think you should let any contest hinder your building. i know many of the MCBA members and well.....them guys pretty much always win the lowrider division in their states. that's all there is to it.....not to say that you will never be at that level, but it's gonna take some hefty cutting, graftiing, painting, suspension modifying, interior etc to even get 2nd place to some of their lowrider builds. i stopped trying to win almost as soon as i started going to shows. it happens sometimes, but if it doesn't i could care less. i go to shows for people, fun and models.....but winning is just not why i build models. i get guys saying "you should detail more" and you would win cuz your paint jobs are nice. i tell them "nah, i don't care if i win....i enjoy building my models and exterior work is what i like most about it." yes i can detail down to the bolts in the valve covers and tranny pan.....but honestly, it drives me nuts LOL i have trophies and you know what? i am the only person that sees them, they are great for keeping the spiders busy too! yep walking up and grabbing one feels good.....but nobody notices if ya DON'T get one and they forget if ya DO get one. have fun, build for yourself....it's what this is about.
bobss396 Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 I've been smoked at shows before. But it showed me what I have to do to be in the running for the loot. Trophies aren't everything to me any more, I grab one now and then. I just like to be in the hunt and show others what I've done. Just build for yourself, try to make your entries as clean as possible and interesting enough to stand out in the crowd. Bob

I agree. There should be no reason to quit or even go under the radar because you didnt win a trophy. So you didnt win. Big Whoop. If I ever go to a contest, it wont stop me from building. May hurt my pride, but thats it.
Olle F Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 I've been smoked at shows before. But it showed me what I have to do to be in the running for the loot. Exactly. I have won my fair share of trophies, but have never cried when I didn't. Just look at it as a challenge instead of a failure, and come back with a vengeance.
Raul_Perez Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Kevin, Kevin, Kevin... Like me, some of your work is built better than some of the other stuff posted on the forum and some of the other builds are better than ours. That's just the way it goes. This forum is all about learning from each other and collectively improving our skills. So, my young friend, GET OVER IT!! Pick your head back up, learn from the builders that inspire you, get back to the bench and BUILD!! Later,
evilone Posted September 23, 2008 Author Posted September 23, 2008 ok heres the run down im not going to stop building im just taking a break from the forum thats all nothing more
Harold Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Don't give up on the forum....heck, I entered a contest back in March and my '69 T-Bird and '97 F-150 Flareside were virtually ignored. Politics and who you know play a big role in situations such as that, so stick around.
