Smart-Resins Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 I am interested in trying to use urathane top clear coats. I have not heard of much on this topic, but have seen some seriously nice models shot with it. Can anyone help give me intro on this subject like what to use and how to use it , when to use it, the basics is good.Thanks.Jody
Gregg Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Jody, I used them for a while Best looking clear coats I ever did A mile deep though, on a half mile deep car, if you know what I mean Plus, they almost killed me. It is nasty stuff I stick to polishing paint now. Once in a while I'll do a Duplicolor or Testor's clear, but that's it
airbrush addict Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 (edited) I've only used Uro clear on models. So, I don't have any other experience with bases and candy uros on models. I use uro base coats, candy, and clears on bikes, helmets, etc. Great stuff!! Like Gregg said it is nasty stuff. Wear gloves, eye protection, and a good respirator... The best advice I can give you is whatever manufacture you choose, get a hold of their product/ tech sheets. They'll list the recoat windows, cure times, reducers, hardeners, etc. Don't assume that all bases and clears are the same. These times vary!!! You also might want to find a local auto paint supply dealer. They will be alot of help selecting the right reducers to match the outside temp, etc. Plus they will have the tech sheets as well.. I like PPG products. Follow the directions and be safe!!! On models, I use auto air paint w/ PPG 3000 or 2021 Uro clear Edited September 30, 2008 by airbrush addict
