Did I need another project? No. So what did I do? Open another box.DSC01954.JPG.0c69c0624aaf986dd2dcc26a2498a3ea.JPGDSC01955.JPG.7dfc19c5e186ba99759ee8527378a81a.JPG

I've been looking a little bit at early custom cars from the 30s and 40s and I got inspired. Maybe pickups were seldom used back then but the good thing with model building is that you can do whatever you want.
The front fenders are being restyled with parts from 1936 Ford fenders (far from finished though) and the grille is from a 1932 Chrysler, seems like it can be used without doing too much work on the hood...

Yes, it will be very unproportional with the stock roof height. Normally I love the phone booth look and I am not a fan of the idea that it seems like everything has to be chopped, but in this case it is necessary.

Found some unknown rear fenders in the parts box. Maybe 1937 Ford delivery? Works better with the new smoother flowing lines anyway, and the top got a chop.

Filed down the louvers and replaced with some chrome trim, also, filed down the hinge in the middle of the hood, I am going to make the hood sides fixed to the body and the top opening, if you have seen how it works on a Mercedes 170S you understand what I mean, looks like a traditional 30s hood but opens like on a modern car.

I had a hard time to decide the front bumper, I had a 1940 Ford which I liked the looks on but it had the completely wrong curvature. So I cut off the ends, using the horns as nerf bars but still tied together with the rail.

Well, that's a good question actually, and it's what have scared me away a bit from doing the other side, I know no better method than trying to measure with my eyes and do things carefully, and I guess that with my bipolar disorder I have to pick the right day, not one when I am down in the dumps and can't concentrate, or one when I think that I am Superman and tries to do everything as fast (but not good) as possible.... :D

But they say that handbuilt cars are never completely symmetrical, and that was probably even more true about some early custom builds....
