Tom Cee Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 Happy New Year! I am trying my first model with accent colors, and having a heckuva time with it. I sprayed my parts with Testors enamel (gloss red) and I have attempted to paint (by brush) the accent color of gloss white and it begins to mix ?. It’s been 3 days since I sprayed, so I thought I waited long enough for the spray to dry. Thanks in advance for any help.
Mark Posted January 12, 2020 Posted January 12, 2020 Either the red is bleeding through the white, or the white is dissolving some of the red and mixing with it. Either way, you're getting pink. If you are painting stripes, paint the white first, mask them, and paint the red. Many people would recommend painting the lighter color first in most cases. Or, use acrylic paint for the white if you paint it over the red. Acrylic won't dissolve the red enamel. The red could still bleed through however.
LL3 Model Worx Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 Testors enamel from spray can can sometimes take a month or more to fully gas out... and in some cases it could take years... (ask me how I know) Best thing to do when using them is to either decant for airbrush use and thin it with lacquer thinner or of that's not an option spray in several extremely light coats waiting about 15 minutes apart. You could also brush a little dulcote on the areas you want to paint a different color and let is dry (it's pretty fast) and then apply your color... this way the dulcote protects from bleed and reactivating the underlying coats of enamel.
