72 Buick GS Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Hi I'm new to Model car building and I'm building a die cast model of my 72 Buick GS I purchased paint in Buick #21 paint to match my car. Everything turned out well. I used the same primer paint and clearcoat for everything. Painted at the same time in the same spot. The problem is I can't get the doors to match the rest of the car. Looking for help? John
stitchdup Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 you might have to hang the doors so they are being sprayed from the same angle, sometimes a small difference in angle can change the way the final colour looks. If you have enough of the paint left you could flat down the body and doors again, then mask inside the doors and body and shoot some more paint with the doors on. hopefully then you'll get the same colour

As Leslie mentions, the angle of spray, as well as the pattern you lay the paint down with, and even the total number of coats can affect whether things like hoods and doors match with the rest of the bodywork. Some colors and paint types (like silvers, metallics and pearls) are harder to make match from panel to panel unless they are all sprayed in their correct orientation at the same time. Adding some final paint coats with doors and hood mounted and shut might increase the opacity of your color coats, and allow things to blend better.
72 Buick GS Posted April 29, 2020 Author Posted April 29, 2020 Ok I’ll repaint with the doors and hood attached.
72 Buick GS Posted April 30, 2020 Author Posted April 30, 2020 Took the advice repainted with doors on turned out perfect!
gman Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 Looks like you pulled a "win" there. Glad it worked out. That looks to be a nice build.
