B-dub Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Hi everyone, My names Bobby and I'm 17 and very interested into getting into this more... I've mainly always done the prepainted plastic models and a lot of non painted ones (but I never painted the actual body) but that was when I was a lot younger and now I'm not so intimidated by messing up.. The style that REALLY interests me is what i think you guys call the "junk" style? Please do correct me when I'm wrong on the specific names that way It's easier for me to research. The pic is an old GM I messed with when I was younger.. I didn't have a clue what I was doing but I liked the making it look like junk aspect lol... I pulled it out of a box last night and took the pics.. I think I may do some more to it and use it as a diorama piece If I get confidant enough to go for that!
george 53 Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Bobby, not to worry, you look like you got an idea to what your lookin for. That lil truck is lookin pretty wore out. Some of the guys here are great at doin the rusted out thing, ask them. Guys, show ol Bobby here whacha knows.

Haha thanks and I think what I like is the "weathered" style It interests me so much b/c it's custom but it's custom ugly.. it's so cool to make a good car bad when in real life you'd be doing the opposite... I "think" the truck I messed with when I was like idk 10? lol I know it's been a loonnng time Anyone have any info or pics of the junkyard cars that have been "wrecked" I love how that stuff looks and would love to learn more about this stuff Future projects! the 5-window coupe had the body painted yellow (just the main cab) so idk what I'm going to do with it I wish it hadn't have been painted other than that NOTHING has been touched besides the finished motor in the truck
Pete J. Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Bobby - you are steping into an entire world when you get to weathering or making "beaters". Making rust and holes in panels, broken glass and scavenged parts cars is a real art form. There are dozens of articals on how to do it. Just do a google search and start with 'model cars weathered' You will get a whole host of tutorials. Don't forget the great weatherers of all time, model railroaders. Good luck and have fun. That is what it is all about. Oh, and don't forget to come back here to show us the sucess. The old boys on this site love to see what new things the younger modeler can come up with that we never thought of. Pete J.
B-dub Posted November 1, 2008 Author Posted November 1, 2008 Thanks for the welcome guys, People around here seem a lot nicer than most forums I've been on. Thanks I googled and searched forever trying to find stuff but I never once tried looking for "weathered" any other time I always pulled up adds for people selling restoration project cars lol....I am going today to pick up paints, brushes, sand paper, a new set of Xacto knives, etc .. I've never been to this hobby shop before so I hope it has some stuff (In my little area we don't really have anywhere to go to get stuff) I plan on sticking around here.. modeling just REALLY interests me... I'm a huge car freak so doing models of dream cars is also a nice little thing to do except my style will be more of junk cars lol
