wdcav Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 I sprayed some testors window tint over some chrome rims. Love the result, but now I'm worried about the durability of the tint coat on the rims. Should I use some of my Testors wet look clear to seal in that tint? Or is it more durable then I think?
Harry P. Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 It's more durable than you think. You can clear it if you want to, but it's not necessary. BTW...I also like the look of the window tint on chrome...it gives a cool "black chrome" sort of look. I like to use it on chrome chopper parts and wire wheels. It seems to give the wire wheels some depth and makes them look more like "real" wire wheels.

I've already used this technique on several other parts and projects because I'm so happy with the results. And I think I'll just leave well enough alone. They look great, just what I wanted.

I did the same on a set of chrome rims for my Traxxas Stampede, only using the Pactra RC version of the paint and have beat the livin' snot out of the truck with those rims and the pant has held pretty well all things considered (as in 30+mph cartwheels ) I be willing to bet the only difference between the Pactra R/C and Testors/Model Master window tint paints are the labels around the cans and cap stickers since Pactra is part of Testors. Here's some pics of the truck after a rather high speed slide (maybe 25-30mph) into the curb infront of the HTU I work at to show the durability without even clearing them. Front Rear that blew the bead in the wreck Heres the rest of the carnage, gotta love RPM's nylon parts Edited November 3, 2008 by Joe Handley
