stitchdup Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 Hi Folks, I'm currently building the roger clark mk1 escort and I'm having a problem with the seatbelts. Does anybody have a tip for cutting the ribbon for the belt that will stop it fraying the ends? They're putting up a bit of a fight with the ends fraying making it near impossible to thread into the pe parts. Its pretty much all thats stopping me finishing the build and i'd rather use the pe than the decals cheers
Danger Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 Start by use the sharpest blade you have. Once cut, don't touch, wave a lit lighter near the cut to add a little heat. You want the cut end to melt just a tiny bit to stop the fraying. This method works for me. Danger

Danger thanks mate, I'll give it a shot
Tom Geiger Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 Take white glue.. don’t know if you guys get Elmers Glue. Thin it down with water, paint both sides of ribbon with it, it should dry clear. And you can then cut it without it fraying. I invested in some $15 worth of 1/16 inch wide ribbon on eBay. What I have doesn’t fray if cut quick with a sharp scissors ✂️
OldNYJim Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 I like using scissors too! Also, if the end will be hidden after you’ve assembled them anyway (say, folded under a buckle and hidden underneath the rest of the belt) I cut them at an angle so they’re pointy - makes them easier to get through the little slots that most PE seatbelt sets have somewhere on the metal parts
stitchdup Posted August 12, 2020 Author Posted August 12, 2020 Thanks guys, I'll try the glue first to see how it goes for me. Luckily the kit has an extra lot of the blue ribbon so I'll practice with it to save the black ribbon. Thanks again
