Snake45 Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Been watching a lot of Memphis Street Outlaws lately. The other day I was rooting around in the Snakepit looking for something else entirely and discovered an AMT 1950 Chevy truck kit that I have no recollection of buying. So now I'm wondering if it might be possible to Snake-slap out a curbside "tribute" to Ole Heavy. (Not gonna detail the chassis or engine, just going for the stance, wheels/tires, and finish.) The kit looks like it has a longer wheelbase/bed than Ole Heavy. Google failed to tell me what its actual wheelbase is but did turn up that '49-'50 Chev trucks came in both 116 and 125 inch wheelbases. Is the kit a 125" WB and the real one is 116"? Also, is Ole Heavy chopped?
gman Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 (edited) It looks like a section was taken out of the bed ahead of and behind the rear wheels, with the rear axle moved forward on the truck in your photo. It doesn't appear to be a stock wheelbase, or an unmodified bed. The front axle appears to have been moved forward as well, probably with a custom chassis where they mocked up the front axle in the desired position, and shortened the bed/relocated the rear fenders to suit the new wheelbase. Yes, Ole Heavy is chopped, and it looks like front and rear fenders wells have been reshaped. Edited September 25, 2020 by gman
Snake45 Posted September 25, 2020 Author Posted September 25, 2020 Thanks. Looks like I'll be about as well off "eyeballing" shortening the bed and wheelbase.
