philo426 Posted September 30, 2020 Author Posted September 30, 2020 Lots of work thus far to get the fuselage halves joined up!...Compared to the 1/48 version it is pretty big!
Mike999 Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 That's going to be an epic job! Working with vac-forms is nearly a lost art these days, so I'm looking forward to seeing your progress. You made me go check the old 1/35 scale vac-forms in my stash. Most have been released as regular plastic kits, like a Humvee ambulance conversion. But there are a couple of oddballs, like the Air Press M*A*N bus conversion (for the Italeri Opel Blitz truck). And my favorite, a Hobby-Modellbau-Schmidt vac-form of an Italian WWII "Desert Patrol" truck. It has a Breda 20-mm cannon and other parts made of white metal.
philo426 Posted September 30, 2020 Author Posted September 30, 2020 (edited) Sounds like a great kit! luckily I had a spare nose wheel wheel well from a Revell 262 kit.Cut a slot on the underside of the fuselage and made it fit. Edited September 30, 2020 by philo426
philo426 Posted October 1, 2020 Author Posted October 1, 2020 Wing and engine nacelle assembly in progress.
philo426 Posted October 2, 2020 Author Posted October 2, 2020 Atrached the wings to the fuselage with brass tubing I flattened slightly in my bench vise.I used JB weld to secure them.I will add putty to smooth out the joint.
philo426 Posted October 4, 2020 Author Posted October 4, 2020 Cut the openings for the wheel wells abd made them by wrapping a sheet of aluminum around a 12mm socket.I made flanges to allow them to be installed.Took awhile to figure out how to do that.
philo426 Posted October 6, 2020 Author Posted October 6, 2020 Mocked up the landing gear and was surprised to see she sit properly.I guess the vac form.plastic is thinner and lighter than normal.styrene.The true test will be when the engines are installed!
bisc63 Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 Coming along nicely! You should scratch-up one of those little e381 suicide scooters to sling underneath!

philo426 Posted October 6, 2020 Author Posted October 6, 2020 Mounted up the engines with brass tubing.

philo426 Posted October 6, 2020 Author Posted October 6, 2020 Yep a little excessive but the clamps did do their job!
