Modellpularn Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 (edited) Yesterday I got the opportunity to visit a car museum in the countryside, by Sparreholm castle. The museum isn't open for visitors now during the winter, but a taxi colleague had been in contact with the museum, so we could come and see the cars. We were about 20 people that took off. Here are some of the cars: Mercedes Benz 540K, totally restored in Germany, One of Ronnie Peterson's early racecars, a SWEBE, And would you believe, this bu** ugly car is a Mercedes??? Has a rear engine, not very many were made- 7000, and they were prone to roll over because of the lousy handling. Pre VW....? If the Merc was ugly, then this was majestic, as it used to belong to our old king. There's a story behind it, since the driver managed to drive it into a ditch. It happened south of Stockholm, and is called "Kungens Kurva" or "The King's Curve" More pics: http://s14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/Mod...arn/Sparreholm/ Edited November 10, 2008 by Modellpularn
Diesel Gypsy Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Mmmmm classy motors. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder my friend as your last picture proves. You think the little Merc is Pug ulgy, I on the other hand think it’s a lovely little motor. It may have been a bad handling little beasty, but it sure is pretty. I guess there’s no accounting for taste on my part is there.
HotRodaSaurus Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 A Mercedes 540K crossed with a SdKfz WWII Halftrack = Rommels Rod. Able to leap tall sandunes in a single bound. Great cars us Europeans used to build eh! I have been to the Schlumphf Museum there are some great cars there, where is this one ? Sparreholm castle? Thanks, John
MrObsessive Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 All of those are absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! I especially like this one............. This looks like a Volvo P1900 circa 1956? A precursor to the P1800 which I once owned (a '65). Thanks for sharing!
Modellpularn Posted November 10, 2008 Author Posted November 10, 2008 (edited) Bill, yes, it's a P1900, I didn't check what year it was. Funny enough, sometime in the late sixties, I saw a couple of these cars here in Stockholm, on a number of occations. Must have been in the summertime. You're welcome folks, I like to show what we have over here, be it models or real cars. Edited November 10, 2008 by Modellpularn
