So, I have both the 1/8th scale 1985 Corvette and IROC Z28. Both cars should have the 700R4 4 speed Auto trans and they come with the THM350. To change this would require a bit of work to the trans pan and adding some stuff to the side. Is this something I should make the effort to change, or should I just leave it?

That's entirely up to you .  How often will the underside of the vehicles be seen ?

Personally , incorrect transmissions , etc. , bother me as well (but only if I'm aware of the inaccuracy --- e.g. , the MPC 1971-1976 A-Body kits' small block / manual trans  / console trifecta ! ) .

The presence of the TH-350 transmissions in those kits date to the origins of those 1/8 scale series ( 1982 Camaro Z~28 , 1978 [?] Corvette )  ; only induction updates were executed (TPI vs. carburetors / Crossfire FI ) .

Frankly , I'm surprised to find that the 1:1 Camaro was available with the 700-R-4 . I thought that the 200-4-R was the auto used behind the 305 and 350 in non-heavy-duty applications ( even the 305-powered Monte Carlo and the Buick G.N. used the 200-4-R ! )

I am sure in the standard Camero it was the 200-R-4, however in the IROC Z28 it was the heavier 700-R-4.

I am really detailing it, but the bottom really won't be seen I guess.
