youpey Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 i am currently working on the 1986 monte carlo ss from revell. https://www.amazon.com/Revell-1986-Chevrolet-Monte-Carlo/dp/B07XGDKYJ8/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2K42D173EDQQA&dchild=1&keywords=monte+carlo+ss&qid=1607976699&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011&rnid=2941120011&rps=1&s=hobbies&sprefix=monte+ca%2Caps%2C193&sr=1-1 I found the front bumper has the 2nd worst fitment i have ever seen in a model and i am curious if others have had the same issue. Essentially the bumper pops right on, but there are gaps on both sides where there is a thing hole basically. like if you held it up to the light, you would be able to see right through it. i slowly but surely sanded it down so there is no more gap, but this is the 2nd revell model released this year that had terrible fitment issues. I dont typically see these issues in revell kits that were made in the last 30 or so years. (the trucks from the 70s had some poor quality), but generally i feel if im getting a revell kit, it typically goes OK. did i get unlucky or is this pretty common for this kit. BTW, i say this is the 2nd worse, the AMT 67 mustang fastback is the worst i have seen for a front bumper. its as if it was made for a different kit
espo Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 I have found the Monte Carlo and the El Camino with the SS front end both need to be trued up before attaching to the body. Adding an additional inner body support for the front bumper goes a long way to help.
youpey Posted December 14, 2020 Author Posted December 14, 2020 ok thanks for the confirmation. i spent about 2 hours sanding it get it right. i think its as close to perfect im going to get it. unfortunately for me, this is a car i really want to build, so i will deal with the issues. i typically dont bother with builds that need so much "massaging" to get it right since i have such little time to work on them
espo Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 Shouldn't be that hard as I recall. One note to remember. Whenyou get to the point when you're installing the windows, the side windows are installed from the outside of the body and not the inside like the front and rear glass. The flush exterior window finish is how the 1:1 is also.
