what colour would you like it to be...?

I will be doing carpet imitations with blue flossing, so I'm thinking about making it yellow.

Blue and Yellow should match.

Also, I think I will be going for AMMO MIG acrylic paint. To my knowledge, I have to paint it yellow, apply decals, apply panel line accent and then spray clear coat of lacquer?

This set came with few bottle of paints, do I need to mix them with thinner?

Last question: I am looking to buying custom wheels, but I have no idea what size should I pick? 14 inches? 15? how do I know?

PS: THIS IS MY FIRST MODEL KIT AND I"LL BE PAINTING WITH AEROGRAPH

There are lots of sources for aftermarket wheels. I wouldn't go above 17 inch wheels but 16 are more common on mk1 golfs. uscp and scale production do a lot of wheels that are commonly used on golfs. Theres also hobby design, aoshima, eightyone, and a lot others. Then there's also shapeways for 3d printed wheels. Since its your first kit I would look at the resin wheels as they mostly have 2 options for fitting included and can be painted to suit.

scaleproduction.de   uscp-ua.com  eightyone81.com   http://www.hobbydesign.com.cn/

also uscp have an ebay page that has different stock from the website. Make sure when you buy the wheels that its a set with tyres included as the ones in the kit probably wont fit. Also if you are using the 16 inch or larger size wheels you will need low profile or stance type tyres.

Thank you for reply.

Aoshima and Fujimi are the shops where I am searching for custom wheels now, since local shop can send them to me.

Also do you have any answers to my other questions? that would be helpful :)

I would stick to the same brand of paint for colour and clear..watch combining laquer over acrylic...

Yellow sounds great. The panel line accent can wait until the end, they don't need to be gloss.

The Ammo MiG colours, I believe are airbrush ready, but check the viscosity (I have not used them personally).

Good luck and keep asking questions...Cheers

I talked to owner of that shop on what to choose, he told me that Alclad 2 is a decent option for lacquer since I dont need to use any thinner for it, its premixed, so just pour some into the airbrush and I can spray.
Also with the paint I can either go for Tamiya or AMMO MIG paints, I dont know which are the better option to go, I haven't decided yet. I know that tamiya X and XF series are not fully acryclic paint, while AMMO MIG are fully acrilic.
So I guess Tamiya is the better option in this situation? Also is there a difference to go for X series which are gloss, if I will be putting lacquer as a finishing layer?

The Alclad Aqua Gloss Clear is a great clear coat and can be put on over anything, I've tested it.

Tamiya paints are their own animal, so stick with Tamiya colour and clear if you like to spend money.

This is $1.00/oz. craft paint with Alclad Aqua Gloss Clear over it...

Test all painting on some scrap plastic before painting your model

Of course

Wet sand primer, and between colour coats with 1000g wet dry sandpaper,

....and please please test on some scrap to get the feel of just how much paint you're laying down

Yes, I will be doing some testing before I start applying paint on a model, I want to get as much info before I start to make it as good looking as possible for my first build.

I know that its better to wet sand before applying last coat of paint, but not after priming it

With the aoshima and fujimi wheels you will need to alter the mount on the wheel or they will stick out a lot. Its easy to alter them though, and all you need is a pencil/stick and some sandpaper. Cut a small disc of the sandpaper and glue or double sided tape it to the end of the pencil then use it to reduce the mounting ring inside the wheels. If you reduce it so the centre is flat the wheels will fit in the arches better. Keep doing test fits during the process too, some wheels need less removed

uh I see, thank you for the tip! I thought that they might be too wide, although if it sticks out a bit it would give its own kind of look that should be decent i think. DO you know if those wheels come with tyres?

aoshima and fujim both have tyres. you might have to use the 14 inch versions to fit the golf as they are quite big tyres

I did this one with 14 wheels but I used the tyres from another kit (revell ford escort rally car). If you need a set of smaller tyres I am happy to send you a set that will fit 14-16 wheels that will fit the golf.

thats a cool build, as this is my first build I dont have any parts hanging around, how much would you ask for tyres?
