ABC Auto Industry Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Wow, I never thought I'd see the day when someone built a model of the original Smokey & the Bandit rig! Good luck on this project! One note: Don't forget to paint the Kenworth logo gold, just like the movie truck (though I think in some shots, it was regular silver).
Jim B Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Dylan, There were three trucks used in the filming of Smokey & the Bandit: (1) 1973 W900, and (2) 1974 W900s. The 1973 W900 had the gold emblem in recognition of Kenworth's 50th anniversary. Here are some decent references: http://www.smokeyandthebanditmodels.com/Home_Page.php And here are the stripes: http://www.modeltruckin.com/movie.html

I didn't see it in the links. I would be curious to see how these were set up, etc.
Jim B Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Right here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smokey_%26_the_Bandit Look in the Production section. It talks about the truck there. It references a thread over at Hank's Truck Pictures.
Old Albion Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Ray, I searched for "Smokey and the Bandit Kenworth" and found a forum just on that. One of the contributors said that there were 4 trucks. One was powered by a Detroit. On the ATHS web site they were discussing a while back the passing of Jerry Reed and the discussion got onto the trucks in the movie. Apparently one of the Kenworths had a KT 450 with an RTO 12513 transmission and I think it was a 1973 model with the gold emblem. Not to sure of my facts as I'm not an expert on Kenworths. Does anyone know which paint scheme the movie truck was? http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_10238-Kenworth-W-900-1973.html http://forums.aths.org/InstantForum414/Top...ight=jerry+reed Must have been quite a challange to get that KT under the short hood. This would be a great project truck. Best Wishes Dave Bates
Jim B Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 According to the Wikipeda site, the color was Coffee Brown with Gold trim.
Old Albion Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I've tried to search through the ATHS web site for the paint scheme. I think I have found it. I reckon that it is the seminole. Look through the thread below and make up your own mind. http://forums.aths.org/InstantForum414/Topic4655-4-1.aspx Go to the bottom and look for the posts by John Costley. Best Wishes Dave Bates
