JJ Deuce Posted February 14, 2021 Posted February 14, 2021 Getting started on a replica of a buddy’s ride. Going to have to delete the side trim from the kit. Fortunately I’ve got a lot of photo references of the car, so I have been collecting bits and pieces to get it fairly accurate. It’s got a 327 with a 5-speed, a/c and bucket seats. I decided to use the AMT ‘66 Nova chassis to make it more true to the real car. I lopped the spare tire well from the kit chassis, and trimmed some of the rear of the ‘66 pan. since the bench seat was going to have to go anyway, and the wagon’s trans tunnel wouldn’t clear the new chassis, I elected to swap as much of the floor pan as possible. I had to narrow the ‘66 floor to get it to fit. It looks like I will need to modify the bucket seats to fit but it’s not a big deal. I cut the rear seat in half, as it’s going to be folded down. The real car is used to haul magazines fairly often so I’ll make some cargo boxes for the back. the floor was a little short but the gap won’t be visible with the seat down.

The problem is that the side trim covers up the lower "vent" recess in the forward fender, as shown on your buddy's car. Only thing I can figger to do to get that is to grind an old Xacto blade down into a narrow "chisel" and cut and scrape it out--very carefully. If it doesn't work, I'll prolly just fill in the upper vent, too, as it'll be a "day two" cruiser so small mods would be okay.

Some pics of the car has a narrower trim down the side as well. Not sure if I’ll leave it off and drill holes or replicate the trim with stock.
