Les Mosher Posted April 10, 2021 Share Posted April 10, 2021 Hey everyone, I just cracked open an AMT '59 El Camino, and I found that when the chassis is slid into the body, the front frame rails (on the chassis pan) don't fit flush with the front fender liners that are molded to the body. This leaves quite a gap under the radiator area. Does the floor pan need to be "notched" slightly for the body to sit flush on the frame rails? To me it seems the front frame rails should mount snug up against the Inner fender liners. JMHO, so I thought I would ask before any modifications. Thanks! Mark Posted April 11, 2021 Share Posted April 11, 2021 There is a very slight, uniform gap (about .020"-.030") in that area. Are you sure the interior is fitted all the way up, and the chassis is located properly? There are two pins on the top side of the chassis that go into two bosses on the bottom of the interior. You do have to test fit everything (windows, interior bucket with instrument panel, and chassis) and everything has to be fitted correctly. When I built mine I don't remember having any fitment issues on that area that would have required any modifications.
