I don't do many build threads over here on MCM for a few reasons. The main one is that I build mostly traditional rods and customs and have a really great home for those types of builds over on TRaK. But this one won't fly there, so I'll take this opportunity to dip my toes in again here. lets see how this goes

You may have noticed over in the review area I asked about the original annual run of AMT C3 Vettes, and specifically the custom parts that came in them. I've recently had my interest piqued about customized Corvettes from C1 through C2 by some builtups and box art images that have been shared on various FB groups i follow. And now that has bled into C3. I didn't realize there were actually some pretty well designed custom options put into Vette kits. When I saw the boxart with a bubble topped early 70's Vette I began my quest to find the bubble from one of these that I intended to drop onto a modern tool AMT 70 or 72 Vette I had in my stash, assuming that any of the annuals would be out of my price range. I figured this quest would take awhile.

Enter my friend Ed Fluck. After seeing my post in the review section where I professed my interest in eventually procuring the custom parts of one of these 70-74 Vettes he offered up a started but complete 72 he had in his collection. It's really the perfect candidate for a build because some assembly and painting has been done. I wasn't really intending to start this project already, but a couple things pushed me in that direction. I attended a Build and Bull at my friend Chucks on Saturday and needed a project to work on, so between that and Ed's enthusiasm for this project I decided to get started.

I'm not very familiar with build trends of the 70's, so I may be seeking guidance along the way. I really like these Round2 blue line drag slicks, and figured they would fit the bill. Just wish there were some matching blue line street tires for the fronts. But I guess black walls will end up being ok. Ed is sending me some wheels that should fit the bill, I'll post those when they get here. Bubble top looks pretty good on there.

Tentative plans include smoothing the body, using the kit supplied custom grille and smooth lens/flush mounted taillights. Probably some simple straight tube side pipes, possibly made from polished aluminum. I'm a sucker for unique induction setups, so I plan to use the funky 8 carb with y adapter setup that comes with the kit.

Here's a pic of a survivor Ed found. It will provide some helpful styling ideas, while still making it my own.

I have really been struggling to find time/motivate myself to build anything, and I do have 2 projects already on the bench, so it will be interesting to see how this one progresses. But with a few friends pushing me to do this one, maybe that will provide the needed motivation. Thanks for stopping by.

AMT has done the classic solid vinyl Firestone Supremes with red and blue stripes, but they're kinda rare. One kit I know that had them was the original annual '67 Camaro.

Thanks for the info. I was kinda daydreaming that Round2 had seen fit to offer some blue lines in a kit (even better, a parts pack) but sounds like it really is a dream
