1972 Satellite Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 I am attemping the chassis swap from the '71 Charger kit. My photos can explain it better than I can. I have seen this done to '73-'74 Plymouth, but not a '71-'72 Plymouth. Also I have not decided on a color yet. Open to suggestions. My spray booth is in a picture. I have been thinking about putting some working drawings on here for some time. I built it with plywood and poplar. I think it could be made for cheap but it requires lots of circ saw cutting.
1972 Satellite Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 By the way. I am using the Charger's glass motor, and interior. The interior has made it a lot trickier, but I think it will be worth it. The package tray and the inner doors had some heavy modifications.
ricky12 Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 looks like alot of work but it looks its going to be a great build .
george 53 Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Tell yawhat Sat, It looks better ALREADY! I know it's a little work, but it's worth it. It'll look MUCH better after your done! Keep on pluggin away,my man!
Ron Hamilton Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 I like that. Is that the old MPC tool? I have one of those, which is unbuilt, as well as a resin '72, which I want to do the '71 Charger upgrade to.
oversteer Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 How about white with orange interior? How can I get a spray booth like yours?
ddonaca351 Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Great start to it... and wow is that sucker ever ORANGE!!! It reminds me of Twig Ziglers pizza haven funny car.
1972 Satellite Posted December 7, 2008 Author Posted December 7, 2008 Thank you all for the feedback. That orange is going to be a white interior in the finished model. I thought about the butterscotch, but I am going to save that for a '73 Cuda down the pike. I should have photos sunday of the color on the body.
Guest 66dragfreak Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Just one thing guys...if you're using the Revell '71 GTX, that is 1/24th scale. The '71 Charger from AMT is 1/25th. You might see some size issues with the engine and so forth.... I like the mods myself...I have a few '71 Chargers left in my stash to build but will definitely be scrapping one to mod the '73 Roadrunner kit i plan on building...Great job so far!

This is the MPC '71 that is in 1/25th. The Monogram has some parts worth stealing, but I do not like the pointy nose on that kit.
Guest 66dragfreak Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Ahhhhhhhhhhh...ok...Makes sense now. Boy...what I wouldn't give to find an MPC '71 kit! Your car will look absolutely awesome when it's done, that's for sure. Can't wait to see more!!!! http://mopars.proboards.com
1972 Satellite Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 Quick update. The color choice was very hard, cause '70-'71 had some of the best colors Chrysler ever offered. I went with a gunmetal that I liked, over the butterscotch and plum crazy that my buddy suggested. I have a bit of painters remorse, but I will make the most out of this and then try again later. Next time you see it will be Under Glass. The decals are Kieth Marks by the way.
diymirage Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 looking great i love the details and i for one think that is a very sexy colour for a RR thats what i painted my 74 GTX
george 53 Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Sat, where'd ya get the hood? That kit comes with the Air Grabber hood, and I also preffer the one your using better. I know theres someone who casts it, but, Duuuhhh, I forgot who.Can you help me out? If it is a resin hood, how much was it?
1972 Satellite Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 The hood comes from the MPC '72 Road Runner kit. I figured someday I will have to build an Air-Grabber '72 RR GTX car, much like the one on the cover of Hemmings Muscle Machines this month. It will be sky blue like the 1:1 car I have in the Garage. Your '74 looks very moparry. I invented that word, kinda like the term chevyized when describing the engine with anodized hardware and moroso valve covers.

MyBradKeselowski Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 72 I like that gunmetal it really sets those decals off good color choice, I can't wait 2 see it finished.
