evilone Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Ok since its been raining here as well as freezing i had alot of time to think about something. The thing i have been thinking of is one of my future cars which is a 69 Lincoln Continental lowrider. Then i noticed i have 2 65 lincoln kits by amt in the garage.Well after fighting with 60mpg gusts and an umbrella i got into the garage and got them. One of which is an early build of mine that hasn't quite kept up to my evolution. The thing is a good buddy of mine told me not to sell or rebuild any builds of mine for the fact it helps me know where i've been in my building life. But the other lincoln has been chopped up and turned into a wagon so there is no going back with it.I really want to build my"dream"car but i keep fighting myself on not cutting it up.Any help would be helpful so please help me out. Here are the pics of the build. Also what do i need to do to make this a 69 hardtop besides making the hardtop.
CB Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Hey Kev, I say chill on the 65 conv for awhile and see if you can find you a 69 or two, before you do something you might regret. Looks to me like you was sprinklin flake way back in your evolution, and I likes the look of this here conv---almost like a flaky primer, or flat paint............but then that's just old decrepit me .
Jantrix Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Tough choice. At your age I'd have rebuilt it. Not because it's bad or could be better, but because it was there and I was bored. At my age now, I'd rather have it to look back on and say check it out. Then and now. It helps you appreciate your level of skill better, when you have one from back then. But that's just my opinion.
evilone Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 Thanks guys.Im still in the air about rebuilding it but i know these kits are not rare heck if i got 2 then they are not rare.CB i like your idea bro but the thing is that the 69 kits go for about $150 when i can find one on the bay.Im not made outta money LOL.Maybe i should sleep on the idea more huh.
george 53 Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Kev, My mom had all 3 years, plus more of those Lincolns. You'd play heck tryin to pass of a 65 for a 69. Too many small differences to have to redo. The shoulder creases on the sides are different, the trunk lid is more squared off than in 65, just too much stuff to hafta change. You'd be WAAAAYYY better off startin with a 66/67/68, IF you can't find a 69. These years are pretty much exactly the same as far as BODY stylng goes. The grilles and rear bumper/taillight ass. are a little different, so you can kinda "fudge" on them. ,the 69 Grille is different from the other years,(66/7/8) in that it gets larger in the center(between the headlights) than the others. You can do it, caz if you can do WHAT you do to the other models, this'll be a walk in the park!. BUT DON'T try to convert the 65, Just too many small diferences to make it NOT worth the trouble. Stay with the other years, an keep your 65 as is, just for the memories.(with props ta Bob Hope!)
Cornpatch Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Evilone: I think you had better sleep on it. Anyone who would take an umbrella out in a 60 mph wind, better get it together before he makes any major decisions. LOL Jeff
JamesW Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Kevin, I may have a 65, (MAYBE even a 69) in my stash, I'll take a look and let you know. If I do, maybe we can work out a trade. Keep yours the way it is for the "then and now".
Scott H. Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 If it were mine, I MIGHT do the chrome as I've never been a big fan of the monochromatic look, but I would take the time to think about it first. Other than that, I would leave it sit just the way it is and build a display base or a small diorama (like it's at a car show) for it to sit on. Remember, it can only be built like you did it back then once. Anything after that and it's either a rebuild or a recreation and will not have the look or feelings attached to it like it does now. Either way, it's your model to do what you want to. -Scott H.

Didja ask Santy Clause 'bout it?
Eshaver Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Kevin , over the hill hippy speaking here . Look, I lost ALL of my collection in a hurricane during the summer of 72. It all went down the James River to the Atlantic Ocean. There were only two models that remained , a 64 Galaxy ht my brother and I built together and a highly customized 61 Ranchero that I built and gave to my grandmother . Years later I did the unthinkable and kind of helped the Ranchero out by re doing the body work and a repaint . Meanwhile , the Galaxy is still original . It's the only reminder of my childhood modeling days too . Leave well enough alone man, let the Lincoln stay as a reminder to you're youth. Ed Shaver
