I had a couple of questions concerning the cars. The white #25 porsche was a 917 long tail right? Steve McQueen's ride was a 917 short tail? The Ferraris, were they 512s I thought I saw a 330 P4 in there as well. The background cars were cool to look at as well. I saw a bunch of Corvettes, Scarabs?, Mclarens I think. I believe that I even saw a Cheetah or two. Great movie for the car watching, but like Grand Prix, very 60s/70s in pacing and movement. The cinemaphotography(spelling?) was great. There were some really good angles and some very cool shots. The movie just moved really slow. I wasn't really watching for the plot though. Just the eye candy  Made me want to pull that 512 out of the pile and start painting and glueing!!!!

Is there a plot in Le Mans? If so; I missed it 5 times now

It's a really bad love story that has race cars in it. Isn't that what all the racing movies were back then?

Yup, they were all 917K the #25 had a LH tail on it and the #20, which really wasn't driven by McQueen in the real race was just a K. McQueen's entry #26 was DQed so he didn't get to race in the real race. The car he drove in the movie was actually #22 rebuild after the real race wreck. The movie crash cars were Lola T70s with a 917 body. There was probably some 330s still running in 1970-71. It's been a long time since I have seen that movie.

That was the plot: Clash of the Titans Porsche VS Ferrari.

See that's what's missing from racing now, manufactures ACTUALLY competing against each other with THEIR cars. ;)

Ahhh, I love this movie, great one that shows no aubstitutes, just real racing, real drivers, and real cars. :D When racng was racing. Love the 917s and of course, the Ferrari's. :D

here is a great video of what's in the movie and what I'm talking about. I get more excited watching this than the actual 24 hour. :o:D

The music :P

I've got a pretty good copy of Thunder in Carolina that I can transfer to DVD. It's the video release from about '79 called Hard Drivin' with a new title spliced into the opening. I'd trade a copy for a copy of LeMans. I got there late at the drive in back in '69 or so and have never seen the whole thing. Missed the opening crash sequence. Any body want to trade? Recorded off cable will be ok.
