ManiacModeler Posted September 29, 2021 Posted September 29, 2021 What kits have a good or excellent replication of an Olds 350 from the 70's as well as speed parts ie: Edelbrock intake or headers as well as a 3 or 4 speed stick trans like the old 3spd Saginaw or Muncie rock crusher?
bisc63 Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 AMT's series of 1969 Olds 442s ( W-30, Hurst Olds, etc) should have what you need and are plentiful. I think the engine is a 455, but externally should work just fine as a big Olds 350. Not sure off the top of my head what tranny they use, so maybe a Revell 69 Camaro would be your best bet for a 4 speed trans. 1
Casey Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 The Revell '72 Olds Cutlass convertible kit has an excellent (my #1 choice) modern Olds V8, and both automatic and 4-speed manual (with the correct B-O-P pattern bellhousing), but the AMT (MPC) '69 Olds Cutlass' V8 is nice, too, as mentioned above: 1
ManiacModeler Posted September 30, 2021 Author Posted September 30, 2021 Ok so then what about the 330 with a standard tranny

The 330, 350 and 403 are all short deck (small block) engines. The AMT 1969 442, Hurst Olds and Revell 442 400 & 455 are tall deck (big block) engines. But externally they are similar enough that you probably can't tell them apart in model cars.

For a '64 330 V8, it would have the lower deck height. Olds didn't use "big block" nor "small block" to differentiate back then. Bores, strokes, and two different deck heights are the main factors. Valve covers, intake manifolds, etc. may vary by year and usage, so some mixing and matching will be required for a specific application. Edited September 30, 2021 by Casey
ManiacModeler Posted October 1, 2021 Author Posted October 1, 2021 I am intending on mixing and matching for this project, I get that all the olds history is cobbled up, I'm a huge bop fan. I'm interested in old style olds 330/350 valve covers, intakes, and kits that have a standard transmission for sure. So any 64+ kit would have the old style low rise valve covers? Which kits other than the 72 have the standard trans in em?
