Saturnine Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 What does this mean? I've seen it used before. Does it mean the model has no engine? Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Harry P. Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 To say it another way, a static model doesn't move. If it does have an engine, it's a plastic model engine and is non-operational, as opposed to, say, a slot car or RC car, which are "models" that have operating engines or motors and actually move.
locoengr Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 I've always been scared to touch one in fear of "getting shocked?" Now someone tells me!
HotRodaSaurus Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 With Tamiya kits it can differentiate between similar releases of the same model Back in the 1960s & 70s the Japanese seemed to want to motorize everything, in particular Tamiya with their large scale kits of F1 and some sports cars such as the Lola T70 MkIII. Many of these kits have since been re-issued but without the motorization the old box would have 'Motorized' in the description of the original issue where as the last release had 'Static model' As the others have pointed out, the model does not move using motors etc. Many of these old kits had some interesting additions such as lighting and working suspension, but to be honest how many builders would want to run their beautifully put together Lola or Porsche 910 across the floor and straight into an unforgiving chair leg John
Daniel Peterson Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 You're all off the mark. At least you're correct about the model not doing anything. A static model is literally defined as any project I've started in the past 2, and in some cases, 4 years. And here I thought you guys were experts. Tighten up your game, will ya?

Jairus Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Static models are pretty and nice to look at but rarely turn a wheel. Pretty much mostly what you see on this forum is a static model. BUT, if you want to go to a REAL party... check out Slotblog! There you will find some of the greatest models that are also fun to drive!

Clinton was in his first term as president the last time I finished a model. I guess that means I'm a static modeler!?
