plastikfreek Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 (edited) I've always wanted to get my hands on one of those older 442 Funny Car kits, but the prices are crazy.... ....So as I was messing around in the garage tonight, I decided to start making my own.....I took the AMT '69 Cutlass kit, and am in the process of merging it with a Polar Lights funny car, and some parts from the old "CopOut" kit............ Had to do alot of trimming here and there, but I think it's gonna work out............. Edited January 12, 2009 by plastikfreek
Classic Plastic Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Great idea! Good luck on the project!!
Sully Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Looks good so far Ed. Good idea on this one. Nothing like working outside the box....... Sully
plastikfreek Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 Made a lil' progress on the Cutlass tonight............. Sanded off the door handles and emblems on the body......still debating on whether or not to glue the hood in place, and fill in the gaps between the hood/fender, and also fill in the door lines....... ....Didn't know if I should make it look like a one piece body or what..................... The frame looks black in the pictures, but it is more of a dark gray color......I was thinking of a burgandy color for the body, but that will change at least a few times.....never can decide on a color til the last minute. Also working on cutting the frame down to fit the wheelbase of the body.....hope to have that done tomorrow along with the front suspension. So far this has been a fun project with minimal headaches, but I'm sure I'll run into something...... ...
MADmodelDOCTOR Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 My vote is fill in all bodylines, bumpers, etc and make it look like a onepiece body. Looking good.
plastikfreek Posted January 1, 2009 Author Posted January 1, 2009 (edited) My vote is fill in all bodylines, bumpers, etc and make it look like a onepiece body. Looking good. Advice taken............ ...Started working on getting the body "filled in", and hope to get it done today or tomorrow, so I can get back to working on the chassis. Found a resin blown big-block Olds that I'm contemplating buying for this project........Might also add a spoiler under the front bumper, haven't really decided. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.................... Edited January 1, 2009 by plastikfreek
plastikfreek Posted January 2, 2009 Author Posted January 2, 2009 Just a couple of mock-up shots of the Cutlass.....Put a thin guide coat of primer on the body tonight, and worked on the chassis some more. Plan on wet sanding the body tonight, and filling in anything that needs it..hood,bumpers and doors are filled in now...(that was alot of fun)...........then hopefully shooting some color on it later tomorrow night....... ...Still need to finish odds-n-ends on the chassis....fuel tank, oil filters..wheel backs.....etc.etc......
Rudy Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Here is a picture of my friend Keith Engling's (SKinny Kid) worlds fastest Olds for motivation......... I know its not the same year but it is still cool. Anxious to see how she turns out. I am just fifnishing up a Polar Lights "Gas Rhonda" 69 mustang funnycar...... I just have to paint the body and apply the decals...... Rudy
MyBradKeselowski Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 lookin good so far, like your mocked up version 2 give idea what it might look like
plastikfreek Posted January 3, 2009 Author Posted January 3, 2009 Thanks guys... ....I appreciate the comments! Hey Rudy, do you have any more pics of Keiths Olds? That thing is WICKED! Anyways, I shot some color on the body today....went with DupliColor Autumn Maple Metallic over the dark gray duplicolor primer.......I'll let the paint cure out for a few days, and then I'll shoot a couple of coats of clear on it and polish it out....... Now on the wheels, should I paint the centers a gold color, or more of a gray/steel color? I'm still undecided on the amount of decals that should go on the body....I want to keep it clean/simple, but leaving it plain is not an option. I also ordered the resin blown big-block olds motor today...( )...and will probably get started on that next week. Once again, thanks for your comments/suggestions, and I should have the chassis/interior done this weekend.------------------------Ed
Sully Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 She's lookin' reeeeeal sweet Ed. That's a good color for her and I would paint the wheel centers gold. Just my opinion. I think that would help set off the body color............ Saw your post for a spoiler, if I have one I'll send it out this week.......... Sully
tuffone20 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 it's looking real sweet where did you get the hood from? And the color is awesome!!
plastikfreek Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 Thanks for the comments guys.........Just a couple of updates... ........Started working on a different motor...(Gonna save the Big Block Olds for another Cutlass project)....Found some beads at HobbyLobby that I'm using for my "fittings"....they seem to work pretty well. Also had to go with a different wheel choice seeing as how the cat snuck off with one of my other front rims..... ....Went with some fat/skinny Cragars....Trying to get a little done here and there.........hope to get the motor plumbed and wired by this weekend................
plastikfreek Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 it's looking real sweet where did you get the hood from? And the color is awesome!! The hood that's on the car is the stock one molded in..........I do have a resin 442 ram-air hood that I was gonna put on it, but I want to use it on another Cutlass project I have planned.....I bought the resin hood off of *bay about 2 yrs ago...
