I know several wives that should have seen this story. I personally don't have that problem. . Even when my wife and I were more together than we are today, I always had time for the kids , pets etc. I think it's a case of jealousy myself when the other party spends too much time "Away". Before any marriage can be successful, each half needs to give and I mean give a lot ! Ed Shaver

Absolutely right Ed. I don't have a problem either. My wife has always supported what I've been interested in and vice-versa. We each pretty much fell in to our own rolls in household chores without discussion, and we each do what the other hates, so it works well! LOL It was just nice to see that there was an article written by someone other than a builder who see's the benefits and positives of the hobby we all enjoy.

Gonna grab my GF and have her read this!!!! She just DOES NOT get it that guys need time to themselves...... And doesnt realize that she needs time off with her GF's too....... But I may get in trouble when she reads the part about taking over the house with your modeling supplies....... OOPs, I may have taken over the dining room table and adjacent area LOL......... But she has destroyed my once clean house and turned it into a giant slob-fest......... I am a neat person and cant take much more..... I am gonna order one of those "pods" and fill it with her ###### and not tell her where I sent it!!!

My Mrs. always supported my hobby for these simple reasons...

...I dont spend money in bars

...I dont spend money in strip joints

...I dont spend money on booze

...keeps me out of trouble

...and at the least she knows where to find me if im not on the main floor

I find it interesting in my family, that my boys have little or no interest in models, while my wife and my youngest daughter have built some very nice models.

This is my youngest daughters first conversion from a 2 door to a 4 door. She was only 14 at the time. Come on out of the closets women. This is a clean hobby that's great for all of the family.

My wife Nancy is the reason I got back into the hobby. A few years back I was forced into an early retirement by health issues. At first I spent time in the garage working on 1:1 cars. As I grew physically weaker, this became untenable. I began to look around for a pastime. Nancy recommended that I finish some of the models I had startd years ago.

As my passion for the hobby grew, she became even more supportive. She oohs and aahs appropriately over my latest paint job. She proudly displays completed models in our living room. She attends model shows with me (you will be able to meet her at NNL West this year).

She has helped me convert a spare bedroom into my "man cave". She has her own artistic interests. She is a handweaver and textile artist. This means she has a deep appreciation for creative endeavers.

In short, she has made the hobby that much more enjoyable for me.

It's a good article. Sometimes I feel a little guilty about my stash, because it is at the top of the stairs and has pretty much taken over the upstairs landing (the upstairs is our bedroom, a bathroom a large walk in closest and a landing hallway) so she has to walk past my ever growing stack o' models.

Somewhere beyond that stack of plastic there is a bathroom and bedroom.

Amazing to me she never complains except to ask me not to blow my top if someday she bumps the pile and it all comes down. Also to please call the avalanche patrol to help dig her out.

She even asks if I need anything from the Hobby store when she goes into town. In honor of her patience I've decided to get a photo of her and make it into a decal so she can grace the nose of a bomber someday.
