Custom Hearse Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 (edited) Hi everyone! I thought I would show you my newest project I'm working on. It's a box stock build with some aftermarket parts thrown in. Here's the engine.... I added a couple of turned aluminum oil breathers, an aluminum distributor (both from detail master), and some blue wrapping wire from Radio Shack.I used some thin heavy wire to make the air cleaner removable by drilling holes in the carbs. Custom Hearse Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 Just like Marcos mentioned, I saw the box art, and I couldn't pass up buying this kit. Here's some pics of the body painted, but not polished as of yet.... I found some really nice paint from Dupli-Color called Medium Quasar. It came out really nice. I had to go to 2 different Autozone parts stores to get 2 cans, as each one had only 1 5oz can each. Oh well....
evilone Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Nice detail on the engine and wow that blue looks deep.
Custom Hearse Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 Here's the detail for the front and rear brakes I added.... I used some #1 braided lines for the brake lines, front and rear. I plan to add an aluminum exhaust pipes to the kit, so I used the headers that came with the kit. I'll be buying some tubing at my LHS, and hopefully be able to bend them to the correct shape that I need. Until next time....
Custom Hearse Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 Nice detail on the engine and wow that blue looks deep. Thanks Kevin! Mine won't be as nice as Marcos, but at least I can relax with this build (I.E. customizing the body work). It's just going to be a straight build for once....
fordh8r Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 The color is great and the engine detail is fantastic! Can't wait to see how the rest comes along.
Custom Hearse Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 The color is great and the engine detail is fantastic! Can't wait to see how the rest comes along. Thanks Tommy! This is a first for me in a long time. I haven't built a box stock model since.... What year is this? Thanks again!
cruz Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Looks cool man, nice to see someone else doing one of these, love the color you chose!!!
Custom Hearse Posted January 10, 2009 Author Posted January 10, 2009 Thanks Marcos! I'm just following your lead. I saw the photoetched you ordered, and have done the same myself. It should be here in a week or two. I also plan to add pieces from the interior junk photoetch set, and a radio faceplate photoetch set. I still look forward to seeing yours being built. You do awesome work!
stump Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Very nice start mate. Motor looks superb as do your brake lines..I've not had much luck making brake lines from braid... The deep deep blue really suits it well too.....nice choice. I must get to mine soon.....I weakened a week ago and got this along with a '62 Pontiac..... For the age of the molds, I was very surprised at all the great detail they have. Look forward to seeing some more soon. cheers Greg
Custom Hearse Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 (edited) Thanks Greg! I'll look forward to seeing yours built too. I couldn't believe the detail this kit has either. I haven't seen what the '62 Pontiac is like, so I look forward to that too! Edited January 22, 2009 by Custom Hearse
Custom Hearse Posted January 25, 2009 Author Posted January 25, 2009 Update.... Reading Marcos' build of his 1960 Ford Starliner, he mentioned that he was ordering resin headlight buckets for his kit. I decided to try and see if I couldn't use the kits headlight buckets. here's some pics of what I did.... I cut the headlight buckets from the kit grill, and then separated each bucket, and then trimmed them.... I then sanded the backside to make them thinner.... Here they are laid out on the photo etch grill.... Let me know what you think....
Modellpularn Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 How about if you install the headlight buckets from the inside instead? Or.... box stock, eh? Maybe they should go on the outside... I was thinking "trick stuff style" I guess....
MADmodelDOCTOR Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I have the 2000 release of this kit and the etch set. Reading Marcos thread, I was wondering about this. Looks like you have the solution. Thanks and great looking build you have going. Later,
fordh8r Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Looks like the headlights will work just fine.
Custom Hearse Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 How about if you install the headlight buckets from the inside instead? Or.... box stock, eh? Maybe they should go on the outside... I was thinking "trick stuff style" I guess.... It would be cool looking Hans, but I'd have to grind out the holes in the photo etch to make it work.... too much hassle. Thanks for the idea anyway. Later, You're welcome Kenny! I'm glad I could help you out with this idea. I didn't want to wait another 2-3 weeks for the resin parts to arrive.
Custom Hearse Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 Looks like the headlights will work just fine. Thanks Tommy. I was hoping they look O.K. I may have to thin them down a little more, but there's plenty of plastic left on the backside!
