kitbash1 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Ok. I'm no dummy when it comes to this subject, it's just that I've come across the Mother of all chromes to strip.I got a set of BBS wheels from Strada Sports. They sent me a Chrome set as they were out of the bare resin centers. I've soak them in Bleach, Super Clean and Brake Fluid. But nothing works. The parts have small areas that have been dechromed but the majority of the center is still covered in chrome. I've had the parts soaking in various solutions for the better part 3 weeks. Do any of you have any suggestions to strip this subroun chrome off.
KanelKustoms Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Have you tried NON Acetone fingernail polish remover? Seems to always work like a champ for me, and in record time. Just make sure its the NON acetone or you will have a melted mess.
GMP440 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Get Eagle One Products "Bare aluminum wheel cleaner with etching acid". That takes any kind of chrome off in 15 seconds. Advance or Pep Boys Auto stores sell it.
slant6 Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Ive been using this for 6 or 8 years now. It has fiberglass threads that come out when you rotate the end. It gets into alot of really tight places. It also can leave some particles on you're hands that get really annoying, so you have to make sure you wash your hands after using it. My Grandmother got it for me, unfortunately I could never remember to ask her where she got it and she recently passed. So, if anyone knows, I would really appreciate finding out where to get it. I'm sure there isnt much sanding left in there.

kitbash1 Posted January 14, 2009 Author Posted January 14, 2009 Well I finally found something that worked. Non Acetone nail polish remover. 10 min. of soaking and the chrome that was left fell right off. You can't buy the Eagle One Bare Aluminum cleaner in Canada, so I went with the other cleaner. Thanks to all who took the time to help.
