Sandy Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 (edited) Hi...I would just like some advice on model choices. My nephew was recently deployed and we are getting a package together for him. I thought that he might enjoy working on a model car, but have no idea even what to send. Any ideas? He recently sold his 68 Mustang, so I think he might like something like that. He is a KC-135 pilot, but I think a car would be best. Any ideas?? Thanks! Sandy (MCM) Edited January 16, 2009 by Sandy
george 53 Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Sandy, Revell just released the 68" Bullet "Mustang. I saw it at my LHS yesterday. I DON'T know if you can build it stock, but they're out now, and maybe you can find one. Hope this helps.
Guest promodmerc Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 (edited) Look on Ebay. There are several AMT '67 Mustang fast back & '67 Shelby GT350's for decent prices. I know they're not '68 but only minor differences. Tell your nephew thank you for defending us! Now I think about what would be great is if us members donated models for our soldiers. I'm more than willing to. Edited January 13, 2009 by promodmerc
James Flowers Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Get him a KC- 135 model. I worked on the EC-135's and the KC 135's back in the day. I loved those planes. I think he would get a kick out of building his plane. I have one I need to build one day.
RJWood Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 In addition to the model, You might want to also send a few supplies, like an Exacto knife with extra blades, some of the small bottles of paint with a couple of good paint brushes, some sanding sticks (also known as emery boards). Some small cans of spray paint.
93Z34 Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Keep in mind the -135 kits are out of production from AMT. They tend to bring a rather pricey sum on Evil Bay but once in awhile you can snag one for a decent price. Having crewed the KC-135R for several years, I have quite a few of the different variants in my collection myself. Talk about a workhorse of an aircraft!

Sandy Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 (edited) Not trying to tell you what to do, but it would be best if you take where he is at out of your post. But yes eBay or eModelcars its a site like eBay, but ran by our editor and forum guy/guru/ the big boss man. Clay, thanks. Did not even cross my mind to omit his deployment site. Thanks for all the suggestions. I will pick up a model this weekend. Need to get it sent, along with chapstick, gum, rice krispie bars and other requested items. I'll let y'all know how the model is received Again...thanks for your input! Sandy Edited January 16, 2009 by Sandy

Sandy I would like to know what you chose. Did you find a 135? I was suprised to see several board memebers associated with the aircraft. I flew them from 1972 to 1981. Saw one at an air show a coouple of months ago and a lot has changed, but a lot remains the same. Love that old work horse! Pete

We got the package sent to my nephew yesterday. My sister and I went to Hobby Lobby and she found a '69 Mustang for him. I know VERY little about models, but this one did not need any extra tools. Not sure if we got him the right thing, but hopefully it is something he can enjoy. HL did not have many aircraft models. Just a couple of Vipers and a helicopter or two. I ended up making him some butterscotch rice krispie bars I know he likes those! Again, thanks for the help!! Sandy
RJWood Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I think he will enjoy the kit. I also would like to thank him for his service to all of us here in the states. Our brave young men deserve all the support we can give them in keeping this country free. I wish him a safe deployment, and pray God watches over him.
