Tom Birky Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 Looking for suggestions on how to paint the wrecked Eleanor from the original movie. Looks to have lots of spots where the paint popped off, exposing primer underneath. Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you!
stitchdup Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 the primer patches look to have pretty sharp edges so i'm try some tearing little bits of masking tape before paint, if any of it is peeling maybe loose bmf under the paint. some of what looks like primer in the pics might be bare metal, the car took a lot of scrapes in filming so it wouldn't surprise me to have it bare in spots. I'm sure there are clearer pics online from its display at the peterson museum a few years back
kruleworld Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 (edited) i did mine with the heat/bend method and it looked unrealistic, so tried a foiled impression replacement and this looks much better i got some heavy foil (it was sealing a beverage can). this was pressed over the straight panel. i then bent it up, then back filled with bondo to hold it's shape. Since the foil is silver, any where it is scratched shows as metal. a bit of grey and black will help the look. if you want primer to show through, sticking some poster tack or liquid mask before top coat. eleanor01 by aus_mus, on Flickr eleanor02 by aus_mus, on Flickr eleanor03 by aus_mus, on Flickr eleanor04 by aus_mus, on Flickr eleanor05 by aus_mus, on Flickr eleanor11 by aus_mus, on Flickr Edited September 25, 2022 by kruleworld
