That IS really cool!

I missed something though?? When you make a scan of the part, form the 3D copy, you still have to take it to the machinist to have it made in metal. Why not just take the machinist the original?

I would imagine someday, soon probly, that a similar scanning machine will produce exact code to be fed into a CNC machine and made from the final metal to be used from the start.

I have been a machinist for about 16 years now, and when I first started I daydreamed of machines like this. And laser micrometers that would measure a part still spinning on the lathe.

Really neat video, thanks for sharing that. My mind will be spinning all day B)

HOLLY BUCK RODGERS BAT MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My first reaction was Now I can have all the Flat Head V-8 motors I could ever want ! Ask anyone how many blocks they go through trying to find a rebuild able Ford Flat motor! I know I went through several in my time only to get a phone call from the boys at my local N A P A telling me , "Uh Blocks cracked , it's junk. Now the down side to this is the Chinese. How long before they STEAL this machine and dupe it over there and send us an ATOMIC BOMB? THE IRANIANS, THE KOREANS, THE CUBANS, THE RUSSIANS, THE PALESTINIANS PERHAPS? I dunno kids , the fun is only beginning , kinda reminds me of a sixties song entitled called "IT'S GOOD NEWS WEEK". .......................... Ed Shaver

WOW!!!! <_< If I had the $35,000 to buy that, I could start my own model company! That is really too cool! Thanks for the link Mike!

the only problem with that printer ( other the n the price lol) it takes 6-8h to make a chess size piece.

I found this on vortex and i was talking with a guy that has one at his work place. He said that its a lot easier to take apart complicated piece and then take it to a machinist but then again i know nothing about the subject B)

HOLY SHAMOLE! Is that thing COOL or WHAT? Ok, maybe if we all pitch in together, we can community buy it, and ALL our forum members can use it!(OK, but it WAS an interesting idea) I wonder if this will have any type of impact on the model car world? I WANT ONE!!! (No more ridiculous E-Bay prices for oop kits!) B):D

that's a good idea 32 ppl ( you need a better one for fine detail ) 1000 bucks keep it in a rented space and time share it lol i don't think it will make an impact the powder printer has been around for a few years .But making CAD drowning and printing parts for resin casting would make a life a lot easier
