speedy5963 Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 Happy New Year all! Aside from my ongoing projects, about a month back I jumped into an online (Instagram) build-off, Mustang vs. Camaro. I jumped into it for a few reasons, one I had been looking at the AMT 68 Camaro kit for a while, growing up, back when I first started building as a kid, a fellow club member had built one of these kits and I loved the way it came out, I must have started and attempted at least five of these way back in the day but I was never happy with them and they never got completed. When this contest came up, figured this would be the time to try and get one of these together, similar to the one my friend built and one that I'd be happy with. Well, what I've got so far is a way off from the initial plan I had going into this but for the sake of finishing and having a completed model for the build off I had to make some changes. As the model is now coming together, I'm a lot happier with it than I was about a week ago. My initial plan was polished aluminum wheels, low profile tires and a nice pearl white paint job, I ended up cleaning up and doing a little paint work on the kit provided rally's which I am happy with but will go with a more era fit paint scheme, I think. I spent quite a bit of time cleaning up the body and parts I'll be using, lowered the stance a bit and tonight got a bit done on the interior. I've added some old detail master photo etched parts I had, flocking and kit provided gauges. I'll get some progress pics up here, enjoy!
speedy5963 Posted January 2, 2023 Author Posted January 2, 2023 First few coats of primer down, it’s been a great winter, need it but it’s made painting very difficult, took advantage of a sunny day today and got some spraying done
speedy5963 Posted January 2, 2023 Author Posted January 2, 2023 Just wrapped up some work in the interior, should look good in there! 1
speedy5963 Posted January 3, 2023 Author Posted January 3, 2023 Cold and rainy here, little progress made with what I could do. It’s looking like this will be a very basic build, initially I planned on modifying the interior tub and firewall to drop in a different engine as the version I’m building leaves no room for a distributor.
speedy5963 Posted January 4, 2023 Author Posted January 4, 2023 With a slight break in the rain and cold, got some House of Kolor platinum Pearl down, paint laid down nice, not overly happy with a new primer I tried, but overall, once the ralley stripes are down and it’s all cleared, I think it’ll look decent
speedy5963 Posted January 19, 2023 Author Posted January 19, 2023 So this thing took a number of turns! I had laid down the black ralley stripe decals and prior to clearing, two of them cracked and chipped off, I ended up stripping the others off and blocking down the body and laying down a jet black paint job, while that was looking good, last coat I ended up with some moisture from the compressor….ended up cleaning up another body at that point and just got a nice Mercedes Gold laid down, base laid out nice and clear laid out nice!

espo Posted January 19, 2023 Posted January 19, 2023 Nice smooth looking paint. The body chrome moldings still stand out.
